Errr did I break something

just had my MOT and service done yesterday and was coming down a nice big straight road and was gonna overtake this car. Went into 3rd and got to about 83ish then the engine sort of cut out then started again. Taught me a lesson and car has driven fine since. Did I hit the rev limiter or did i do something bad to the engine? Either way im never doing that again lol (ps. sorry if this is in the wrong forum)

Hit the rev limiter, the engine cut out to stop it killing itself.

83 in 3rd, is, 8mph over the limit.. you could have been lucky... hehe. Limiter on 1.2 DIETs is 5750 and in 3rd, thats bang on 75 (well, it is in my mk1, phase3).

me m8 has a 1.2 aswel, must b a right pain at times

They dont come with one standard.. and getting one is a pain.. Took me weeks and about £100 to get a standard rev counter and working in my 1.2 Mk1/Phase3.. heh.

yup no rev counter so all guess work when to change. Had it doing 80 in 3rd before - was going down a hill tho

80 in 3rd, is past the limiter.. heh.. you musta been sat on it whilst it sped up down the hill!

i had 87 in 3rd out of my little 1.2 nova and ive been 120mph :\ but that was downhill with a following wind... still scary.

that car had no rev counter, but it did hav a limiter.. about 30 in 1st about 60 in 2nd and about 88 in 3rd, never got the limiter going in 4th... was mental tho

I guess so.. the 1.2 DIET engine does and its 5750..

how many revs till the limiter in the mk3 1.2 16v??

ive had it to just over 6000rpm in second, can it go further??

Goes to 6.5k I think but its been a while.

The limiters there to protect the engine so might as well hit it just to see it works ever now and again.
