Evening all

Hi all,

Today I purchased a reasonable priced 182 with less then 50k on the clock not bad for an 04 plate I might add. I have been looking on line and I have a two concerns.

1. The bonnet catch on my very first car which was a clio did indeed fail at 70mph in the dark on the motorway. I was wondering what have people done to give them a little more piece of mind if the worst were to happen other then aero catches?

2. Belts I will be getting them changed shortly as I like to know I've had it done. From what I've read it's the cam belt, aux belt and dephaser all at the same time, just looking for a bit of clarification on this for when the time comes.

Thanks in advance for any advice it is greatly appreciated.

I think renault recalled all the dodgy bonnet catches, my mates gone done not too long ago. Mines never been called upon though so fingers crossed...

Welcome

As above Renault recalled them. They replaced mine free of charge , got a letter through the post to take it in. Ring local dealer up and see what they say

Yes need to do both full kits at same time, people do replace dephaser at same time as if it starts to get noisy down the line you will have to replace the lot again so may be worth doing if keeping the car a while

One of the specialist Traders on here will look after you with the cambelt change

  Many.
TBH the only reason renault change them is if they get sticky, generally with rust. If you keep yours well lubed, and make sure both bits move freely, you won't have a problem.

The problem arises when the secondary catch (the one you pull after releaseing the bonnet inside) gets stuck in the pulled postion, and the slam panel catch gets sticky and doesn't lock fully.

Where abouts are you? Plenty of traders on here to get your belts etc done at a good price, and more important than anything, correctly, with the correct timing (very senistive!(

Thanks for the replies, both catches move freely as they should do. I am in north devon and I am just waiting for a few quotes to come back before I get all the belts done.
