Eventually Ready For A Trackday....

So after spending a lot of money making sure my car is up to scratch, I think i'm ready for my first trackday... Now what is the best way to get booked onto doing a trackday? I've heard of Motorvision but do you just order it, turn up and do it? Is there any other companies that you book track time with?

The other thing is insurance... I want to make sure i'm at least covered for damages to third party's over my car, but is it a lot more to cover your car also in the event of an incident? And what companies are best to go with?

Any help would be much appreciated :)

Im pretty certain there is no such thing as 3rd party track cover. You can only cover yourself.

Theres quite a few websites for booking trackdays.

circuitdays
motorsportvision
easytrack
bookatrack

Circuit-days are my prefered choice.
Never had a problem & when you factor in tuition, passengers etc very good value. Ask for Chris if you contact them he's a top bloke:D

I'm covered for trackdays by greenlight insurance.

Doing Donington GP at end of August as it's one of the last before the track gets ripped up & the new circuit appears;)

My first trackday was Bedford. I LOVED it, so much so that Im doing it again in August, and am thinking of doing the Oulton park one too.

There's another RS Bedford day this Friday, there still might be spaces on that, or the next one is near the end of August.

I would really recommend the Bedford days, the track is nice and wide, theres nothing to hit if you come off (which you wont), and I never once worried about getting in the way of other people.

Did my first one at snetterton last weekend . I loved it - going again next tuesday! Booked it through motorsport vision, they're pretty good to be honest. Its a very fast track, power is a major factor but there are some good corners too where the clio shows its abilities nicely! Lots of run off areas too (grass mainly though). Can't recommend it highly enough.

As I understand it, you can only cover your car own on trackdays - but if you have the insurance, and someone hits you, the insurer will pay out on your car - if the other person isn't insured, that's their problem! Similarly if you hit them, if they aren't insured on their own car they're f*cked, but your insurance will pay out on your car! I think its a no-brainer to get the insurance, most insurers who you have your annual policy with won't cover you but it's only £50-£70 for the day through MORIS (www.moris.co.uk) or competition car insurance (don't have a weblink, do a search on here or on google).

Only other thing to remember is that its not cheap on the consumables. I will need 2 new tyres for sure after my next one, and possibly 4, and I think I'm going to ask Mark Fish very nicely if he can squeeze me in this weekend for some new rear brakes (discs and pads) - discs are very pitted and I have huge gaps between the callipur (sp?) and disc I can fit my fingers in between, where I think there should be pads, and lots of dust on the rear wheels (as well as the fronts obviously)!
