Well they timed it so it must be. The std wrx doesnt have a very good pwr or torque to weight figure compared to the rs so it might just lose

Yup i kinda like it but not sure about that power in a fwd car. Rather have a rwd or 4wd with that power so it doesnt corrupt the handling. My cup is a handful on full gas and in the rain and it only has 172 bhp, i wouldnt like to see what it would be like with over 200!

Ah my favourite article!

To be fair it was the bug eye scoob which dont realy count but if you read the article the cup realy trounced the RS and the cooper S

I think this is the most important section:

Price as tested:

£17,600

£21,495

The Clio is just such a bargain. Thats why I went for my 172, a brand new top hot-hatch for under 11k.

170bhp , the 172 figure is ps i believe, even says it in the article you posted.

 172 Cup

PS means "PferdeStarke" which is the German for BHP, 172PS divide by 1.013 equates to 169.9 BHP.

Still think its a pity that renault couldnt have managed a bit more torque and definitely at slightly lower revs,147 at 5400 would be nice if that could been 160 at 4500 if that was possible without having to change the map so much and affecting something else

For a normally aspirated 2.0 litre 4 cyl engine its actually a decent amount of torque, especially in a light car! Compare it to other similar engines and theres nowt wrong in the torque department.

My old Cup actually made 153lb/ft as low as 4500rpm on the rollers, so a really strong engine with plenty of mid-range grunt.

Check the graph out >>>

My CTR makes 158lb/ft and has a really impressive torque curve >>>

To get a lot more low end torque werre looking at either more cylinders, a different configuration (a Vee) or forced induction.

afaik a standard 99 spec impzreza had a 0-100 of 14 secs dead. mine done it in less but had 250 brake @ the wheels. i have no idea about the new imprezas, maybe the ugleh looks make em slower ;)

apparently so my cossie owning mate tells me, the focus RS has some fandango diff in it and will actually beat the impreza and evo around a race track

does anyone know of some good links where the CTR and CUP have been compared?

Do you think they got the Focus and subaru times to 100 mixed up??

Simon.
NO they are 6 secs to 60 and about 13 seconds after that to the ton!

I remember a lot of talk about the RS being modified, especially as no-one has ever got near those figures again as standard. Now bluefin is a different matter, they are quite rapid.

Classic (ie pre bug eyed..) Scoobs were a lot lighter and hence the 0-60 and 0-100 times reflect this. My old RB5 only had 217 bhp to play with but the 0-100 was in the region of 14.5 according to mags. You really need to get a PPP or otherwise tweaked bug eyed one to make rapid progress IMHO. I know which driver would have the last laugh in the wet though, bye bye fwd ;)
