Exhasut - V Loud!!!!

  172 cup
Ok so had the car a week now. Since I got it Ive noticed the exhaust is loud but I like it and thought that was how it was supposed to be.

Had it down at NW Performance at the weekend for belts and Ryan confirmed whilst it was up on the lift that it was a standard exhaust.

Anyway Ive literally got home tonight after my drive home from work and my ears are f**ked from the noise from the exhaust, they are popped are wont un pop.

Just wondering what might potentially be wrong with it or are they supposed to be loud?

Oooops just realised spelling mistake in title

could have a blow, could just be the fact a Cup has next to no sound deadening, might have a box that the baffles have blown out of or the cat has collapsed

When you start it up during the recent cold mornings, have a look under the car, if you see any exhaust gasses escaping along the system you've got a leak/it's blowing.

Try putting your hand (with a glove or something on) tight against the tail pipe when the car's running. If the exhaust gases don't build up enough pressure to push your hand off then it's blowing. Be careful as if you've had the car running a while the exhaust will be hot! (hence the use of gloves lol).

Take it down to ATS just for a check. Then leave quick once you have your answer.

They do it for free.

Failing that you could just get Ryan to get his head down on your pipe :rasp:

sometimes pattern part exhausts are louder, they are slighty different to the standard genuine ones. get a pic of a standard one and compare it to yours, my friend for some reason got one fitted at kwik fit and is now alot louder than it was. other than that it must be blowing!

My standard exhaust was painfully loud just before I got it replaced. I got under the car and had a look, and found 2 holes. One the size of a 5p right where the backbox was welded to the centre pipe and another one closer to the cat. I bet you have a big hole as well...

I think if there was a hole Ryan would have noticed it - Like I say he had a quick look at it whilst it was up on the lift!!

Could be on the top side of the exhaust? The bit that you can't see?
Or I'm wondering if it could be that the baffles in your back box have gone?

This is what he suggested. The mount thingy that holds the exhaust on had come off so he had to replace that.

If its the baffles what does that entail in terms of fixing?

A new back box. I don't know if the centre silencer has baffles in it too? I presume so.

Get a new back box. same happened to me and it was because the baffle had blown out. Might be cheaper to invest on a stainless one instead of paying Renault prices. You can get them made so there quite like standard

Mine started doing this...........and fell off a few days later:eek:

Should hear it now, no exhaust and a 70 mile drive will burst your ears.

Yozza with a cat is about as loud as standard item. Yozza with decat = loud. Think Yozza's have a bad rep and I'd recommend one to anyone. They're perfect.

Anyway, you sure it's just not like that as standard Laura? Do you have a vid of it out of curiosity.

Defo change for a s/steel one. From personal experience, changing one part of the exhaust (say the back box) because it's blowing / rusty will mean you will definitely change the rest of it in a matter of weeks. Just get it all changed.

Standard Renault exhausts are made from cheese anyway.

If you keep the cat, it shouldn't be too loud... If however, it gets unbearable, crank the radio up haha :D

Get a stainless ordered and get em to fit it when your at NW performance.

Good excuse to change it.

Where do I order one and how much?
