Exhaust affecting MPG hugely..

This has probably been covered before or is a bit of an obvious answer, but I'm a bit confused right now. About 2-3 weeks ago I fitted a sportex cat back to my 1.2, and my MPG on the readout has been a steady 39.5 ish MPG. Before I fitted the sportex and had the standard system on, I was averaging a good 45.

I can't work out why the exhaust would make such a big difference? All the lambdas are still there, so it's not messing with the ECU's fueling. So's the cat. If anything it might have been my lead foot, but I've been steady with it the past week and nothing's changed.

Am I gonna have to admit defeat and go back to the standard exhaust? Otherwise this is gonna get expensive...

Going to get expensive? lol! 39 mpg is great.

Been on the loud pedal much?

I think you're just driving quicker to listen to it. You also get worse mpg in winter too as there are more cold starts etc. just don't worry about it.

Has someone been putting their foot down to hear the exhaust roar? ;)

My MPG went from a solid 26 down to 23 when I put my exhaust on the 200. I'd love to see 30MPG let alone what you get!

I will admit I love the overrun noise haha, but I've been trying to be good! ;) Just seems I'm constantly chucking petrol in but that might be because I'm used to using a moped which took £3 to go 90 miles! Also the short journeys to work and college won't do it much good.

Cheers chaps :)

Another one voting for the noise mine was the same with my 182 , not the fuel Eco the same obviously , I was getting a steady 29mpg and with the exhaust it was down to 22 but that was simply down to I love the noise , it went back up once I was use to the noise !

If your struggling with 39mpg buy a diesel dude or take the exhaust off lol ! Most of us dream of MPG like that !
