EXPERTS: last desperate attempt

  RS4 480hp,STI 420hp,ELISE
I brought my car to the dealer because the engine was cutting out when driving.

They changed TDC sensor, cam belt and auxbelt.

Today I was driving and: ENGINE CUTTING OUT!!!
THIS IS SOOOOOOOOO DANGEROUS!!!

Please give me some possibilities, because the dealer has no idea and they keep saying it's because my second lambdasensor is broken.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Explain a bit more.

When and under what circumstances?

On or off throttle?

high/low rpm.

Clutch in or out?

cold/hot?

etc etc

On throttle, at low rpm. Today it was when I was slowing down to take a 90°corner. I just left home.
Second time it cutted out was when turning right at very low speed and on bad road, but engine was warm.

Never had it on higher revs and when I drove several miles. Actually it happens often when i'm cornering and I think the clutch is in, but I'm not very sure of that.

But sometimes when I'm steering, I hear a howling noise, just like there is something making a big effort to make the steering possible

I had it once on a straight road, but also at very low speed and slowing down (not with brakes).
Did you ever find the sollution for that?

  RS4 480hp,STI 420hp,ELISE
Also forgot to tell that sometimes the revs are comming alive on idle. They go up slightly, back down and a litlle bit up

Toninght I opened the enginebay, took the cover of the engine and I pulled on every wire I saw. Hoped engine would cut out, but didn't happen.

Oh and spark plugs were also changed.

Fuel filter? I have to know for sure :) I can keep trying to change everything, but that would be to expensive in the end

I found a very similar problem on a Dutch forum. Was a guy with a 2003 Espace Diesel. Identical problem, when slowing down in 1st or second in order to take a turn engine cutted out.

They found the problem by reprogramming the boardcomputer in order to re-arrange the injectors.

Can this be the same problem?

i was going to suggest ECU issue as its doing it whilst cutting out and moving, thus the anti-stall algorhitym might not be working due to some qwerk.

Or possibly the TPS, TB, MAP (high manifold vacuum when coasting or slowing).

Its too hard a problem to diagnose via the internet, almost anything could cause the problem, but its almost certainly management related rather than physical.

So it will be difficult to trace for the dealer? Or do they have proper equipement for that?

Thanks

And maybe this is also a detail, but when i turn off the ignition, the engine shakes as it's going to jump out of the engine bay.

Mine occasionaly cuts out when idling, ECU said it was map sensor and TP sensor, so i bought the map sensor and that didnt help it atall, so now TP sensor is being fitted tomorrow.

i would expect the dealer could isolate the fault if it happened whilst they had the clip attached to it.

As Benr said I'd be looking towards your temp sensor, this can cause the car to cut out, and it doesn't always put a fault on the dealers CLIP tool, that explains why they've thrown a cambelt & TDC sensor on your car with no luck.

But my temp meter is not acting strange, or isn't that necessary?
Strange new detail. My engine management light was continious on for several months. Thought it was because of my taped lambdasensor. Few weeks ago that sensor felt out of the tube and banged several times on the ground. So I thought it would be damaged for sure.

A week ago they changed my cambelt and deleted the stored errors, also the lambdasensor error. I left the dealer with the management light of, but 10 minutes later it was there again. I thought it was normal because of the damaged sensor.

Yesterday I opened the bonnet and retightened the broken ecu holder. 1 time when I touched the ecu, the engine gave a reaction. Seemed as the revs went up a little. Maybe coincidense?

But today I was driving and the engine management light dissapeared spontanious for the 1st time in months. And that with a damaged lambdasensor???

mine cut out the other day pulling merging onto a fast junction, got into second and it cut out, it might have been when the clutch was in, started it up and no problems since, it has also cut out once when idling when cold. is this usual for clios?

sounds like a elec connector..

check the pins on the map sensor plug..

take a small pick and VERY carfully bend the pin clamps inside the plug so they connect better in the map sensor itself...

so the same (although difficult) with the TPS

seen this LOADS of times.

the fuel filter is in the tank on a 182... so hard to get at and i have never seen a blocked one.

It's now 3 days ago since it cutted out. I have done a few things.

1) Tightened the broken ecu bracket
2) Replaced 2nd lambdasensor. It banged to the ground at 70mph, 2 months ago and gave an error: "CIRCUIT OF 2ND LAMBDASENSOR".
3) Pulled on a few wires everywere in the enginebay

But thinking of the clutch now. I remember the clutch was in every time. Yesterday it happened a few times when pulling of (very easy), the car was shaking. Had to correct that with clutch. All little hard fast shakes and I was pulling of very very slow
