f**king Wireless

  Not a Clio
Went wireless with moving house and not wanting to run telephone cable all over the house. It's been f**king me off all day with choppy access and then decided to refuse to respond to my wireless card and then a few mins later locked the Mrs's pc out as well. I've sworn a hell of a lot, thrown stuff and finally yanked the fucker out the wall, plugged the telephone extention in and dragged the lot upstairs and we're both now wired up and it's running perfectly.

Wireless is a complete pile of s**t!!!!!!

I can pick up routers but it's simply stopped connecting. Going out tomorrow to buy a long enough extension so that I can wire it in properly, can't be arsed with the hassle of trying again to sort the wireless.

Wireless stuff is overly complicated imo, people who don't know anything about comps wouldn't be able to do it.

I know enough but still couldn't sort it. Used to work for an ISP and the amount of customers with wireless problems was insane, should have got the message from them I guess lol

depends on yer situation tbh, wired is still best if you can get away or dont mind wires.

wireless is good ok yer obviosly going to get some conflicts drop outs ect. but generally if its set up right, and u dont skimp on routers n network cards yer guna be fine.

i always use n95 on wireless and never had a problem

Personally id say get rid of the home hub! They are crap for the reasons you state, Locking up.

Had no end of problems with my one. Main thing that really gets my goat is that it cant act as a print server! (well it can but its fussy!)

Load of bollox about it here if any1 is interested.

Some people have had to restart the router 24 time in a day! Comical if you ask me!

Use a decent brand of AP (and a decent spec!) and use an Intel or decent brand card and you'll be fine. I use 3945abg and 4965bgn cards and they're perfect - never miss a beat. Forever I'm falling out with the cheap Dell cards. Not worth saving a tenner on...

They cost a fortune? Last time I checked it was about £70 for a pair. Hardly compares when you can buy an extension cable for £1.99 and some cable clips for 99p.

Probably just needed a bit of tweeking with the channels, try some different channels until you find one its happy and reliable on. It happens now and then, your channel just might be getting some interference from a Digital phone or a neighbours router.

Wireless really isnt difficult and with a decent brand of equipment (I use Netgear, for years!) it is a really helpful technology.

Re: f**king Wireless

Why not use homeplugs?

I have a mixed network, main wireless G router for laptops and slingbox, cabled directly to server and network printer, and mains ethernet to get to bits of the house that the wireless doesn't reach.

Been thinking of getting a new wireless n access point to drop in somewhere to sort the blackspots and get better speed for the laptops. Just have to find the right one, had problems with Linksys and Buffalo stuff in the past but IMO Belkin seems to be the best for reliability.
