Failed mot :-(

  Clio 172
Ive got a 53 plate 172, bought it in november, and ever since the abs, serv and esp lights have been on, not been too bothered with them because i knew the mot was coming up soon.
So went of the mot, it failed on 2 front wheel bearings, outta driveshaft gaitor and the abs light on dash.
Took it to a reputable garage (not renault) on monday, they said they call me when its done in the afternoon. They phoned me up late afternoon, said they had fitted the wheel bearings, but noticed the inner driveshaft gaitor was bodged and looked as though it was about to fall off and would i like it replaced the next day (tuesday), so yeah i said get it done. They phoned me back yesterday (tues) the gaitors were both fitted, and when they put the car back together they checked the wheels and the n/s one was still "wobbly" I need a new track rod end and tracking re done he told me, more expense...but thought well at least itll be done and sorted by about lunchtime today. I called them at 5.30 today, Track rod end fitted and tracking redone, BUT..... they plugged the ecu in to find out whats wrong with the dash lights, and apparently its the steering angle sensor, and they can only be purchased from renault at a price of £150!!!!
Considering it was originally half a days work and its still there now, Is this garage trying to do me over? Or does it all sound about right? Obviously labour charges are adding up too.
How certain is it that the steering angle sensor is broken? if i went to a scrapyard, would it be fairly easy to remove one myself?

Any help is extremely apreciated.

Rich
