Bethesda registered Fallout 4 as a trademark a couple of weeks ago and at the same time this website appeared;

there's another couple of hundred hours of my life gone right there if it's as good as 3

OMG OMG OMG!

The Fallout series have been some of the best games I've ever played. Completely love the non linear nature of the game, which blow s**t like Battlefield and COD out of the water.

Agreed - It's great how there isn't really a set story line. You sort of make the game your own. Love it. FO3 was much better than NV though. Can't wait for FO4. Wasn't going to get a next gen console for a while but this will be a deal maker for me. I reckon full release is a long way off yet though.

there's a lot of hubbub about this site, with plenty of people finding potential holes in it that may mean it's a hoax.

But it's a damn good one if it is. Which I hope it isn't.

There was also a quickly-removed phone line to call to "book your future". The line rang through to a Vault-tec sales-line with the "tranquility lane" music in the background.

Zenimax own the website so hopefully it isn't a hoax.

What's happening in 12 days? The countdown has reset. Any big game media conferences or similar?

  Listerine & Poledo
yep, my bad, maths fail.

SO what's going on, on the 11th? I'd magine there'll be some massive reveal at a conference somewhere.

Followed by my credit card being given to Game for pre-ordering whatever the ultimate-collectors-pre-release edition ends up being

been watching that site closely for the last few weeks, i really hope it is fallout, but Bethesda have not said that they own that domain, nor have they said that they don't, so im skeptical at the moment.

^^^ - I agree - but only on the initial stages of the game. I really do hope that Bethesda doesn't make the same mistake as FO3 and Skyrim where your character effectively becomes a one-man army. I want specialisation and focus. I want to be able to create a character that is not the same as anyone elses. It's not hard to do - so please stop me from increasing my light armour 'skill' by bumping into a tree when I'm a wizard. ;)

Oh, and co-op? :)

I didn't like it when I hit the Level cap on F03 lol (PS3). Was a surprise as I didn't know it was there!

Co-op would be genius in these games, surely it would have been included by now though if they were going to do it? I've wasted hours looking into multiplayer mods in the past lol.

Darren, for somebody who plays a lot of games you rarely seem to play one you like. Amiright?

I loved Fallout 3. Like properly, got really stuck into it, threw away a stupid amount of hours on the story (ies), all the DLC and just generally wandering about. When I was finished I was aching for FO4.

Then I got bored a few months back so bought 3 again and started from scratch. I just couldn't get into it. AT ALL. Which I don't really get, as I know how brilliant it is and what's to come. Maybe that's why. Will I bother with 4? Doubtful.

Did you enjoy that story? Liar.

Hahaha! You might have a point!

Tbh, it's the ones that I really do like that get fucked over by stupid, careless, lazy issues that really get my back up. However, not as much as games where the previous titles had so many things right and then the follow up just falls flat on its face. Company of Heroes is a perfect example of that frustration - quite what Relic were thinking with the core engine model of CoH2 is anyone's guess. And WhereTF is Homeworld 3, while we're at it? :)

I'm just a bit passionate about them. I've been playing various games since 1981 and love games that have had great insight, planning, production and ultimately enjoyment coming through the end result. The Mass Effect series was like that for me. Although my favourite of the series was ME2 simply due to it being such a big step-up from ME1 - all three games were a brilliant experience to play thorugh.

Back on topic - I was utterly consumed by FO3 at the start. The references and connections going all the way back to the EA/Interplay Wasteland days was great. I loved the feeling of being 'alone' in amongst a barren backdrop of various challenges and characters. I completed it, but I felt a little cheated by the end. Like all the character choices and skills I started with were irrelevant - as ultimately I became awesome at everything. A bit like using a Wii controller for the first time, then 5 minutes later you realise you can sit down on the sofa, have a conversation on the phone while wildly swinging the controller in the air and do just as well.

Meh and naff, spring to mind....

Fallout 3 was an amazing experience for me. Alongside Mass Effect and playing online Halo for the first time, it really was groundbreaking and not something I had done before. I remember stepping out into the wasteland and it was such a tense experience. You see something in the distance - do you risk attacking them to get the loot, talk to them, or avoid them all together? I loved just wandering about discovering the landscape - some real oddities not part of missions scattered the landscape, such as the warehouse containing the giant ant, or the crashed UFO with the laser blaster. Amazing.

However, like Skyrim, Bethesda need to work on how to make their mid and end games more exciting and challenging. After 20-30 hours I found myself being too powerful and not really fearing for my life as I did earlier on. By the end killing enemies wasn't even an issue, to the point where I didn't even complete Skyrim as my interest tailed off.

Games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age were shorter but more focussed, so ideally I would like an RPG which remains focused but also lets you go off and do your own thing too. For a more 'open' sort of RPG I found Dragon's Dogma the best I've played to date, that was an amazing and underrated RPG. Also enjoyed Borderlands 2 a lot - shows how many approaches to RPGs there are these days.

Yeah the first time I met one of those I started to fight it then realised I was out my depth so had to run away! Stuff like that was great, as you try stuff and see what happens. Great when you're not led by hand from mission to mission and give the player some credit for making their own decisions.

Dragon's Dogma was so good as I didn't really understand what was going on until about 10 hours in, then just got better and more challening - unlike most RPGs which get worse and/or easier.

I could have cut & pasted that from my own thoughts!

Totally agree.

No. If there's one thing I didn't like about Fallout 3, it was them f**king Deathclaws.

Haha, me and my mate were like "Let's go check out Old Olney. Hmm, what's this, a sewer you say? What's down heAAARGGGGHHHH RUNNN!!"

Yeah, I've played it before but didn't do all that I could on it. Had New Vegas for the same price also.
