Fan lights not illuminating until twisted

Basically at night until I twist the fan controls the lights don't come on around the numbers and temperature, anyone know what this problem is? Obviously it's when I have my headlights on.

well today i gave it a good wollop and well... it comes on now, BUT, goes off every now and then, anyone know what it is?

Do all the lights come on/off or just a section? Jon

Well at first they all came on but now when i twist it only the right side lights came on, when I hit it the left side came on and the right side dimmed, so I hit it again and they all came on and like I said sometimes one side will go off every know and then

Sounds like a loose connection, may be worth stripping the console to see if you have a loose plug or loose connector in a plug??
