FAO those with no sidelights.

  330Ci (Fail)Sport
Anyone had any problems?

Have taken mine out and hoping its all safe and won't cause any lights to come on the dash after a while or issues when deciding to keep them in after being out for a while, etc?

Thought side lights were needed for MOT, thought I failed on this a couple of years ago lol

At least no probs though.

Cheers guys, just the answers I was hoping for. Looks much better than with the creamy glow next to the Xenons.

mine have been out for 2 years only put them back in at M.O.T. time

That's what I was thinking of doing.

is no side lights the new fad? lol

Just thought I'd try it and see what my mates think. Seems good so far so shall keep for a while.

Was going to get some LEDs but removing is cheaper than replacing lol

For all those that think its cool, i cant wait to see one of you guys get pulled and 6 points given for driving an un-road worthy car on the road lol, if a cop sees that you dont have side lights on he could be really arsey and decided to inpound your car for having an unroad worthy motor, anything you do after the mot that could fail at the time of mot invalidates your mot, so that goes for non e marked bulbs, d-cat etc
anything like that can get the fuzz very intreasted in your motor

why remove it anyway.... is it suddenly uncool to have side lights?

To be cool? Are you 12? I did it purely to have a slightly different look to the car, and didn't want to pay for LEDs or white bulbs incase I didn't like them so have removed them. I do not think the car is unroadworthy if you still have main lights on. I've never just used side lights, I always use dipped beam. As to the fuzz asking questions, I think they would be understanding if you said you took them out as they had blown (one of mine actually has) and hadn't got round to replacing them. A mate of mine was pulled over because one of his dipped beams had gone and he disconnected side lights because the previous owner had hooked neons to the sidelight switch, so could look like a motorcycle from distance. All copper said was get fixed ASAP. As for him to pull you over for having dipped beam on but not side lights, seems unlikely.

LOLz most police will just see dipped beam and be happy enough. You have to know clio's pretty well to know they were in the hi beam lense.

says the guy with the illegal number plates... (no dealer stamp or bsau stamp that i can see) http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?p=5124177#post5124177

its sidelight bulbs... not two bald tyres or something hanging off... hardly a cause for 6 points.

Thats some nice owning Adam!

I roll with no side lights. Please lock me up, along with the murderers and rapists.

Noticed today that with there seems to be some light reflection into the inner part of the light, where the side lights are, from the Xenons. So it actually looks as if there is a faint white side light very near to the Xenons. Perfect colour match to the Xenons (obviously) and no birght spot from a bulb so it looks perfect to me. Worth doing.

very very weird me thinks. I use my side lights a bit when it's a bit dark tho,...

I have my Xenons on auto so they come on when its a bit dark and I always have them on anyway as I think its safer.

In my old cars, if it was dark enough for side lights, then its dark enough for main lights.

what does this no sidelight malarky do?

diferent beam of light? example?

Standard side light bulbs have that creamy, orangy glow (best I can describe it!) and looks a bit odd against the Xenon. Some change side lights bulbs to white ones, I've just taken them out so only Xenons are on. Purely on a looks basis. Side lights don't really have a purpose if you've got dipped beam on anyway.

what is the actual purpose of side lights on the front,

if its dark you either have dip of main on anyway,

front side lights do not light up the road so dont see why its a legal requirement tbh

yeh im down with light colours ;)

just wasnt sure why, but its for looks, thats sound, i run ehite LEDS in the meg, they match he xenon, but obviously the 1*2 lighting setup is a little diff

i ran led lights for about 5 mins, one broke and one went disco so swapped polarity and run no sides, looks ok without imo, simples

this thread is going no-where tbh

They have to be left on if your parked on roads of certain speeds I think it 50 and over.

Also its a legal requiremnt to have lights on if you have your wipers on so if its raining but its still light you may only choose to put the sidelights on.

that is more likely to fail the MOT, rules state that anything fitted should be in a useable/working order, ie bald spare tyre is MOT failure etc (not having a go at you two, just a note :) )

exactly what most on here without sidelights do :)

jamie

Lol, nope.

Spare tyre isnt part of the mot, or construction and use regs. Wouldnt matter if it was bald, flat etc, its just luggage in your boot.

But you do need sidelights for an mot, and would be committing a traffic offence if you were stopped and didnt have them fitted.

As far as i'm aware.. If you have a spare tyre it has to be legal.

So a bald tyre in your boot would fail.

Not having it there would pass.

Waiting to see how long Ali would take!
I always ran my xenons without sidelights. Looked so much better.
Nice crisp light next to a yellow spot looked crap!
I was to busy blinding people with them for them to notice my sidelights were out!
