Check for accidents, obviously.
Suspensions:
Old or failing dampers, bushes, top mounts, balljoint, wheel bearings, camber/toe value wrong (irregular tyre wear, but better to check the alignment with a specialist)
Gearbox: syncro, specially 1st, 2nd and 5th, check gearchange at high revs.
Interior: hazard switch, automatic lights and washers working properly. If the airbag light is on it could be some connectors or a previous accident and the airbag ecu has to be changed.
Engine: timebelt, auxiliary and waterpump changed "recently", sticking throttle. It would be a good idea to hook up a diagnostic tool to see past errors
Exhaust: mid and rear mounts, the rubber can be very old and cracked. The cat could be broken (see above, for gas warning errors)
