Few questions....

Right im possibly going to be shot down in flames for this but here goes!

Whats the best way to get "reasonable" gains from the 172 engine without spending silly amounts on turbo's etc etc.

Basically im looking to get more power through the rev range, so my thinking was Filter, Exhaust Chip. Im not after 200+BHP although that would be nice... just a more smooth power curve a supose. From low down up to red line, as low down the 172 lags somewhat.

Then I got onto thinking about head mods and inlet manifold mods. Then there's cams etc etc!

Talk about a debacle!!

Thing is there is so much to choose from and you hear all sorts of s**t and I suppose I dont want to through money away on "bolt on" crap that wont make any difference (if you get what I mean???!)

So is suppose im after some opinions/feedback from people that have had any of the above done so I can spend my cash wisely :)

simples - exhaust system, filter/air induction and remap

best way to improve

Aye exactly what I was thinking. And what I thought people might say.

So what are the benefits of having manifolds re-done then?

inlet??

there is a good possilbily of bad matching, so it improves the air flow

do all the mods you want them remap to get the best out your mods

Yeah Inlet. See them all the time on here about havinginlets redone etc.

Right where's the shopping list???! :)

I agree with the above.

A panel filter will set you back say 50 quid new and posted or 30 quid used.
Exhaust system such as GDI/KTEC will be roughly 300
Inlet matching is what? another 200?
Remap is 300 from a garage or 150 from fastchip.

Decats are also good, but causes the system to be overly loud and a pain in the ass come MOT. But a few horses still to be had there.

Out of the above, ive had panel/GDI STEALTH/Remap and have certainly felt the difference. The best was the map i got from fastchip as it gave me more low down torque and spread the powerband from 3-7k alot better than before.

The panel filter and exhaust alone i didnt feel any difference apart from mose noise to be honest :D

My next on the list will be inlet matching and a custom map for some more improvements.

Anything else will be in the 1000's such as cams/tb's/turbo
