FILLING FUEL TANK-HOW!

How do you get a full tank of fuel(50ltrs.) into these vehicles? The most it will take from virtually empty is about 35ltrs.The gauge then shows full but after about 70mls. it is down to half,a further 170mls its down to empty.Average mpg 36(mostly m/way).Any ideas?

Thats a question thats always stumbled me.

My old MG had a 50 litre fuel tank, i actually ran out of petrol and the car did not start up again. I only got 46.6litres back in. The gauges are never accurate, 1/2 tank doesnt mean 25 litres are left in. IT IS MY BIGGEST PET HATE AND I HATE IT.

35litres out of a 50 litre tank seems way to excessive though. If you properly ran it down into the red, and filled it till the petrol dripped down the side of the car, id imagine you getting 45+ in.

this winds me up as well... the little fuel computer thing is saying i have 50+ miles left in the tank when the needle is down in the red... i think it might have a good few miles to go still but i dont wanna find out it doesnt the hard way!

Drive it till the fuel light comes on. At this point youve got another 50-60km range

You should also be able to fill to about 46l

I ususally put about 41-43 litres each time, usually dont drive much with the light on.
