Firefox Help :(

Firefox just stopped responding, pages wouldnt load, Google etc, but msn was still working fine.

Restarted my laptop, it comes back on and all my bookmarks have gone. All my extensions, themes, passwords, cookies etc are still there, but all my bookmakrs have gone!!

Anyway of getting them back?

It's very doubtful but try a system restore to a couple of days ago.

Hmmm, ive found the bookmarks file, but its not very upto-date!!

firefox uses a backup bookmarks file, called bookmarks.bak, not sure how you restore to it but it might work?

It's possible that another profile has loaded.

Close firefox, click START -> RUN

Enter this: firefox.exe -profilemanager

See if more than one profile is listed, if so, the other profile is probably the one you were using and has your bookmarks.

I tried that, theres only one.

The bookmark file is the one that I imported from my Desktop I think when I installed firefox. Which was nearly a year ago!

Apparently FF 1.5 and onwards saves 5 bookmark backups a day.

C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login/user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Profile name>\

Should be a bookmark folder in there.

It should contain a number of these: bookmarks-(date).html

This info is from mozillaZine so it's not my fault if it's wrong

yes you do, go into folder options and click on the show hidden folders, by defaults its hidden!
