first play with D3

just a few snaps from yesterday.......shooting at 1600 iso.

Its just a show of how good this camera is, most of the images have been taken with shutter priority - which is the way I will be working in Afghanistan next week.
I put it through a few situations to see how it behaves......I can safely say it is AMAZING!!!!

It simply is a point and shoot camera - leaving me to concentrate on composition.

^^^^^....I have been told to keep it on 1600 iso 24/7.
For what we use the images for, the quality is very good.

It mean I can go up and down the whole Fno range during the daytime hours from 2.8 - 22 something I simply could not do with my D2x.

I will get out a shoot a carnival today to see how it handles an overcast day.....will upload a seperate thread tonight.

why S mode? I would stick it in either A or M and let it Auto ISO. Nice pictures too, dog pictures are ace.

Shutter priority because there will be times when I want deliberate movement, so I can just preset the camera with dedicated s/speeds to suit the situation. No need for Auto iso when I can just leave it on 1600 iso all day long.

The metering is so accurate that the 2 auto modes ...."just work"

Believe me you don't have time to think when you are waiting for a 500lb bomb to land 100ft in front of you and you need to get the shot.

I will also be carrying 2 bodies so having them both ready to go is important - hence using 1 of the Auto modes.

A camera that most people on this site would have to sell their car to afford, and then some.

Crazy noise control though, looks to be worth the price tag. Looking forward to seeing it put through its paces.
