First time flash photography

Starting to experiment with the flash, my poor cat! lol!

Equipment is D40, Sigma 30mm with SB-400 and Omni-bounce. I love using this lens, it produces some of my most clear and crisp shots to date.

^^ lol, the flash was pointed up with diffuser on so she was not too bad!!

I wouldn't dare take photos of my hamster with the flash on, might do some proper damage!

in teh second pic was the DOF supposed to be that shallow ?

Well yes and no lol!

Was focusing on her nose and left the camera in P mode so it chose a really shallow DOF. Should have been in A mode for that one, but was a spur of the moment shot!

Only just started out using it so none really! Diffuser helps a great deal, if you don't have one you can easily make them!
