Fitting a 307 splitter - curve/fitting?

  Renaultsport Clio 172
Hi guys

Received a 307 splitter thru the post, it's this one:

When having a look to see about fitting, you have to bend it quite a bit to get round the curve of the clio bumper properly, is this right? Tried masking taping it on but the splitter keeps popping away from the bumper as the curve isnt in line.

Also, what do you do about the existing screws on the bottom of the bumper lip? Im assuming they need to stay in, so did you cut into the splitter to make spaces for the existing screws so the splitter fits flush?

Clio 172 Mk2 BTW.

Cheers

I didn't have to cut the splitter to allow for holes.

I marked off the centre of the bumper and then using masking tape I positioned one half of the splitter (not the curve I left that hanging free). I then drilled holes in the bumper to line up with the slots of the splitter, starting in the middle. I fixed it in place with self tapping screws and washers. Doing the straight section first makes the curve much easier, but you could do with someone else to give you a hand and hold it in position.

I think I ended up cutting off about 4 inches.

From start to finish it took about 30 minutes (2 people)

Hope that helps.

Thanks Ed, thats great.

So did you find that the end needed bending quite a bit to get around the Clio bumper? I was worried I had bought the wrong model of splitter!!

Also what car did you fit yours to? Were there screws already on the underside of the bumper?

Cheers

Is that the small one dude??

I bent mine around quite a bit on the small 307 one I got.

I Basically pulled the bumper off. Flipped it upside down on some chairs in the garden and lined it up. Then did a few test holes in the centre.

From there I lined up the rest and the corners. I also cut part of the corner (the inside part of the splitter) as I found it easier to bend once it was able to be moved.

What im on about is this..on the left splitter (as you look at it) you can see 2 small bits of plastic with holes, followed by a rigid part, one with hole, rigid..etc etc.

I cut one of those(cant remember which one!) and I found it easier to get it to line up and it had less tension on the splitter itself.

To be honest dude, I havent got a clue whether it's the larger 307 one or the smaller? This splitter type malarkey is confusing!

Will give it a go on the weekend, I was concerned that it needed alot of bending to fit right, we'll see! Fingers crossed!

Cheers for the pics and advice, veruy much appreciated!

When yo get it measure how tall it is..

Large one is 45mm deep/tall
So if its less then you have a small one :)

edit just measured mine and the small ones are 30mm :)

Yes there were already screws in the bumper, but none of them got in the way of the splitter. I fitted it to my ph2 172 and it did need to be bent quite a bit, but they are flexible.

Likewise I used new self taping screws. And the old ones didnt get in the way of where I needed to mount the new one :)

For the price I think these are awesome :)
