Fitting Component Speakers

  BG Clio 182 - Recaro
Bought some black air vibe component speakers

ive got the original head unit as i feel it suits the car

how do i go about fitting the speakers, is it a easy job or is there lots of wiring involved

thanks

To fit the door/rear component speakers is easy.

Pop off the speaker covers, undo the 4 screws.

You can then disconnect the speakers from the back.

Reconnect the new component to the two connectors + & -

then screw them back in place with the original 4 screws and pop the cover back on.

takes a couple of minutes per speaker, no wiring.

They come with a crossover and set of tweeters i presume tweeters just fit like the speakers but is there no wiring involved in the passive crossover?

You may have trouble rigging those components into the existing loom. The OEM speakers have in-line filters to stop bass t othe tweeters and highs to the mid-bass IIRC.

To fit those Vibes you may need to rewire from the head unit to the speakers, integrating the included Vibe crossovers and runnint the new wiring to the doors and tweeter-pods.

That may require either a dash-off amount of work or a large amount of swearing.

There are some IVCE specialists on here, MT Audio is one of note, he may respond to a PM, or turn up on here any minute :)

ive PM'd him

well these sound like there going to be a bugger to fit :(

just want a good system but dont want to change head unit as standard looks great any ideas?

Pioneer custom-fit jobbies are the way to go for easy-fitment. only swearing needed is to get the tweeters in and out, the wiring stays as is.

THing is, the OEM speakers in my 172 are actually pretty decent, you'll find the head unit is the leak link in the chain.

Yes my back speakers starting to crackle a little bit, cant change my head unit suits car to much, il just find someone to fit the speakers professionally

back speakers are easy, any given 13cm's will go in fine. But wiuthout a naftermarket HU, you may as well just go for any cheapo hole-filler.

I apprecaite what you're saying about the OEM look of the HU. I changed mine for an Alpine with "Blackout" and a connection tothe dash-top display.

I find I don't really look at the headunit so it doesn't bother me

As said before, unless you plan to replace the headunit, I wouldn't even bother changing the speakers for anything decent. You won't notice much differance as the output is crap on the oem stereo. I personally find though that aftermarket headunits look decent in our clios. As the dash isn't like new cars an all in one etc. Just make sure you get a nice orange one, prefs pioneer or Sony, an enjoy the benifits it offers an how nice your components sound.

As mentioned...

OEM head units are awful. Standard speakers are fine once they've had the low freq's cut. Sub + fronts = perfect setup in a Clio.

Back speakers are almost pointless. Take them out and set the fade to the front. Do you ever have people in the back ? Would they even notice if there were no speakers..?

I understand this stands out a little from the standard one, but TBH the standard ones look awful anyway. Does this really look out of place ?

aftermarket stuff will always look out of place, but that's for any car.

Still, a subtle Alpine unit (or an old nakamichi, if you can get one) isn't going to ruin your console as much as, for instance, a Sony XPLOP!!!!!! or whatever they're called.

Dash info, no. But you won't miss it. The clock still works though.

PM 'MT AUDIO' on here and tell him what head unit you've got.. he will supply you with a harness to do it :approve:

You can keep the dash-pod working, but you'll need particular head units and inferface leads.

I've got an Alpine which hooks into the controls and dash-display, the lead was £70, but worth it IMO, no sense in having a dead display if you can help it.
