how have people put speaker wire into thier front doors when running it from an amp. was trying today and realised there was a plug in the door not just holes with the rubber grommets over the top.

i have a phase 1 clio by the way!

cheers

Pete

from what ive read the only way is to use one of the holes that goes through the plug and drill it out a bit or drill a new holes in the door and use a grommet

I think your only option is to drill a hole in the door and then a hole in the car body and run the cable through that. The problem there is that obviously it has to be water tight and the cable itself cant be exposed.

Other option is to use the standard cable which is what Ive done for the time being until I can work out another way to do it. Alternatively if you can find anyone who knows a way to attach another wire to the plug that you mentioned then you could use one of the spare holes in that.

Like you, I was a bit pissed off when I found out that there was a plug in the door rather than the cables going straight through.

cheers people, think im just going to go for the drilling a hole option. only prob is now gettin a drill in there to make the hole, really dont want the hassle of taking the door off!!!!!

I had a look at the plug a couple of days ago. I think it would be possible to widen a couple of the holes in the plug at the top with a drill. Ive not had a chance to look at the bit that is on the door but I would assume that you could take off the spade type connectors with a bit of muscle and you would be able to run the cable through there.

Im going to try this at the weekend if it stays dry so I can let you know how it goes if you want to hang fire for a bit before you start butchering your doors!

cheers, going to have to do somethings soon, have no door card, no speakers at all, no stereo running and a lot of wire all round the car at the mo!!!!!

I found the best way to do this was to get an ISO extension block and put it between your head unit and the main wiring loom. Cut the front speaker wires on the extension lead in half and solder/bullet/crimp the wires from the amp directly to them. Stick some heatshrink or something around the wires that go to the stereo so that they dont short out.

That way, you dont need to touch any of the existing loom and you can put it all back exactly how you found it when you come to sell the car.

Hi mate, I had a go this afternoon at drilling some holes in the wiring plugs to see if it could be done. The pics below show what I did, I found a couple of holes where there were no wires going through them and drilled them out all the way through so that a wire could go in.

Unscrewing the plug in the door was a bit of a pain, in the end I found a bit, like the sort of thing you would put in an electric screwdriver, with a star head on it. I put that in to the screw and used some pliers to turn it because you cant get a screwdriver in there.

Tomorrow Im going to fit the connectors to the wire and test it, Ill let you know how I get on.

OK despite the fact that its bloody cold outside, Ive been out and connected up the wires to listen to what it sounds like. First impressions are that it was worth the aggro getting the wires in cos it sounds a lot better then before, even at low volume you can tell the difference.

Cool Ill give it a go myself then. Ive been running the standard Renault wiring for years now, its about time I sorted it out really.

Might be a bit more difficult on a 16v cos youve got extra wires for the leccy mirrors, but you should be able to do it. I found that there were wires that went into the male plug in the car body that didnt seem to have a corresponding wire in the female door connection so I just pulled one of them out when I was doing the drivers side to fit the wire.

cheers for the hepl guys, just gone for the using the original wiring at the moment. think ill leave it till the summer to sort out the drilling of the plug.

i had a short go at trying to unscrew the plug but hand were freezin so gave up very quickly. am sure putting better wire through will improve the quility, original wire is sooooooooooo amazingly poor
