Fitting Decat..

Is it as simple as I think it will be?!

I take it I need no special tools, just my socket set and some brute force, or do I need to replace anything?
Going to fit a decat to my standard 182 system.

Hardest bit for me was getting the sensor out of the cat.

WD40, an essential tool for any job where you are undoing tight or rusty bolts etc

Not sure if i'm being stupid, but what gasket would I ask for at a motor factors? I know they all ome in different shapes/sizes etc, so just a 182 cat gasket set?

Sorry if the answer is blindingly obvious but I'm confused!

you might need a grinder if the cat->system nuts/bolts are in a particularly bad way

worst case scenario:
- new manifold->cat fitting kit
- new cat->system gasket (best to renew this anyway)
- new cat->system nuts/bolts
- Loctite 5920 seems a good sealant if you still have blowing from the flange joint

got part numbers if you'd like them

Thanks Henry, part numbers would be awesome if it isn't too much trouble. From a quick peek earlier the bolts didnt look too bad, I'll get it up on my axle standas this week and have a look, might try cracking them off just to see!

no bother:)

- new manifold->cat fitting kit: cheapest from KTEC at about £20 (they're £40 from Renault at the moment..) but also check the link at the bottom of the post

- new cat->system gasket (best to renew this anyway): part number 7700823540 £4

- new cat->system nuts/bolts: bolt is PN 7703002949 (about £1); nut is PN 7703033132 (about £1)

- Loctite 5920 seems a good sealant if you still have blowing from the flange joint: about £5 from Halfords

Hope you've got small hands. It's a pain getting a spanner and socket onto the spring loaded bolts from the cat to the manifold.

Rest of it is plain sailing.

Yup 182 = easy, 172 = right t**t.

As for WD40, when will people learn that it's s**t and it's not even a penetrating oil! you might want duck/mech oil on the lambda or some heat if it's stuck solid.

+1
Btw ask for an exhaust gasket;)
You get a better seal and its easier to take off when a gasket has been fitted.

Sweet, just topped up my toolkit today, some zip ties, superglue and epoxy resin, should be a piece of piss :D

Easy for me when I did it -

22mm spanner for Lamda sensor
Socket and spanners to get off the 2 front bolts with the springs on them
2 bolts at the back with a band joining cat/de-cat to the centre section.

You might need a new gasket at the front, but you might get away with old one. It's like a wire mesh one that squashes down when you tighten bolts.

Suggest you will need exhaust past to join the back of de-cat to centre section.

That clamp was fiddly on mine, but just a matter of taking your time getting it off.
