Fitting engine mounts

Anyone done a guide to fitting engine mounts or is it really straight forward

Just got my KTR mounts - and wanna get them fitted this weekend but i don't have a haynes manual (as they don't cover 172's) and I don't wanna get stuck doing it as I'm at donington on sunday LOL

Any guides would be good

Good question....I'll be needing to change mine in the near future and would rather do them myself than pay a garage to do them if possible.

Drivers one is easy. Need to support the engine and remove and refit.
Gearbox end is more tricky and needs the battery removed. One of the bolts can be bugger tight on the mount

Are you changing both mounts? (upper engine mount + upper gearbox mount?

they are basically the same as normal, support the engine from underneath with a jack and a block of wood on it, undo the upper engine mount bolt so that it can lift up when jacking from underneath.

Once you have clearance unbolt off the chassis and fit new one.

same for the other side,(remove battery, support gearbox unbolt the rubber mount (3 bolts, 1 each side and one in the centre and remove and fit new one, (centre bolt is tough)

that should be it..

Easy enough in theory then....I'm sure my mate who knows his stuff will be called upon though :)

Cheers lads

The upper gearbox one has 2 bolts holding it in place with nyloc nuts on the bottom - what's the best way to get to these - is it best to take passenger wheel off?

Also I'd read something about a nut coming loose on the upper gearbox mount that's best to locnut on - which is that and how do I get to it?

To get to those nuts, it's fiddly, but take the airbox and battery out, and you can get a spanner under the battery tray.

I did have mine come loose, but just did them up again, and never had a problem after that..

You'll know pretty soon, because you get a knocking at high revs in first and second..

I get a knocking now in high revs in 1st and 2nd - so I assume that bolt has come loose LOL

I'd rather not take the airbox off as it took me ages to get it all in - do you think I can get to that bottom nut from the wheel arch - and then locnut it back on?

I had this same problem with the small nuts under battery. In the end took air box out: took seconds literally and then managed to squeeze my hand underneath t tghten them up

Cheers - I wanna take the nut completely off - stick a bit of locknut on and then do it back up. If its come loose through regular driving - its bound to with uprated engine mounts on
