Fitting new gearbox to 16v

  S2000
Hopefully going to get started on this job tomorrow but have one question. Is it possible to do with just one jack or will I need two?

I know I'll need one to support the engine but can the gearbox be removed without using a jack to support it. My plan was to undo all the bolts holding the gearbox on, with a jack underneath just to hold it in place and then to remove the box by hand. Will it be OK just to leave the gearbox there with all the bolts removed without a jack or will that leave the weight on the input shaft?

I don't want to have to go and buy another jack if possible, but if it's the only option then I'll just have to do that.

Any other tips for doing the job? How much do I have to lower the subframe by?

Thanks.

The other option woud be just to use the reanult jack to support the weight of it as I undo the bolts etc, then when remocing it I will do it by hand.

its prob easier to by a engine beam. not sure if thats what there called though. but its a bar with an adjustable hook on it that sits above the engine and has feet that sit on the inner wing. this allows you to let the engine down slowly so you can remove the box on the jack that you have. i would not recommend using the renault one. saying that the box is not that heavy but it is easier on a jack. also easier when trying to line it up going back in.

Thanks people. Not going to take the engine out as I don't have a hoist and it's possible to do with the engine in place. I'll get started on removing the driveshafts and everything else today and I'll maybe see if a mate has a trolley jack I can borow for the box.

All you should need is a trolly jack and two axle stands..........jack up car and support with stands............unbolt everthing and place jack under g/box ready for lowering!!!

Good luck

The thing is though that you need to support the engine on a trolley jack itself because you are remocing the gearbox mount. I was hoping there would be a way to do it using only th one jack but as I need to support the engine as well I think I'll need two.

Sorry mate I'm being stupid......of corse you need to support the engine.... Can you not find something to support the engine when you lower it onto the axle stands.......few bits of wood or something???
