Fitting springs...

  Chelsea tractor
Been getting quotes to fit some -40mm springs on my clio this afternoon. Yes they are Apex (feel free to rip me!) but they cost me naff all. The couple of garages that I found around Leicester are charging £150 for apparently 3 hours work?

Now as I understood from another thread it should only take an hour or so. This means the garages are either;
a) Not very good, or;
b) Talking sh*te

The other thread I read listed some garages / people who would fit them for around £50 in the Midlands but I can't find it now! Any suggestions (preferably around East Mids if possible)

Edit: I just read the title and concluded i'm a spak :)

Re: Fitting spings...

I can't edit the above :S

Anyhoo feel free to ignore this once more as i finally found the thread i was after (only took 2 and a bit hours! eek)

Re: Fitting spings...

You can do them in 2 hours. So more than £70 a bit expensive. If they doing tracking as well say £40 extra for that.

Re: Fitting spings...

Fitted Eibachs to the fronts only on my 172 on Saturday. Quick job, honestly - it took me 11 hours!!!!

Two people, working together and with fair knowledge of what's involved and the right tools, I'd say 1.5 hours on each side.

Re: Fitting spings...

^^^^The guide above is very useful.

I reckon having another pair of hands to help is advisable.

Re: Fitting spings...

rear will take about 3 hours if u do it your self at home with no garage! none of this bullshit that is take 2 hours to do the whole car! the bolts holding my rears up where rele stiff had to bring out the impact gun,and the breaker bar! the fronts require you to start another day probz! and whatever you do,do not undo the nut that holds the spring in place on the front shock,its easy done if you have not done it b4 ,causing the spring to shoot down on top of your cv boot and compressing to very dangerous angle!lol:cool: LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES I SAY THO!LOL

3 hours to do the rears? all you have to undo is 1 bolt per side!

20 mins max to change both the rear springs, on your own with just an adjustable spanner and a jack!

Mine were well seized up though, had to be gunned off.

Re: Fitting spings...

lol

on a serious note, allow 2 hours for the fronts, 30 mins for the rear if you're working alone with just axel stands to help.

Re: Fitting spings...

save me 2 hours and post the link plz :)
http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=206608

I've helped a mate do his at home and that only took about an hour and a half but I'm currently not in a position to do the springs on my own as I don't have an axle stands / nice jacks / socket sets at uni! Was just looking for a place or person nearby that doesn't cost the earth!!

Cheers for the help guys :)

Fred, out of curiosity, how much do you charge and where are you based?

Re: Fitting spings...

Is it best to track them at the same time or let them settle a bit first? Most of the places I phoned insisted on tracking it there and then for some reason.

Re: Fitting spings...

no, its best to leave new springs a month or 2 first and then get it tracked, getting it tracked straight away is a waste of money
