i think the ones in your pics have a feed going to the front calipers. seen ones like them on 106s the racing air intakes are on the head lights.

the ones in yer pic are renault sport

I agree with biojo they will be for brake cooling rather then engine air intake.

They do look smart though I suppose there is no reason why you couldnt use one to feed an enclosed filter.
