bad ground connection somewere. had this on my old clio.
I fixed it by simply removing the rear lights and putting them back carefully ensuring that no cables were trapped etc. whether it will be this simple for you, i dont know. I was lucky and it was a nice simple fix.
Its the grounding on the rear lights...been mentioned a few times. Get a small file and check the connections on both rear sets of lights for corrosion. tidy that up (some people have used WD-40...I haven't) and should work a treat!
