Football manager Network game probs!

This is on FM2007 but also had same prob with FM2006

Im connected to the net via a netgear dg834v2 router.

Ive followed:

Ive allowed both UDP and TCP and the right ports the problems happens when my mate connects to my computer, as soon as he joins the game it flicks up showing he is joining, but the my computer goes nuts, will work for 1-2 seconds then pause for 10, then work for 1-2 seconds then pause for 10.. etc..

Any ideas?!?

Windows XP firewall on, Zone Alarm etc?

Nope windows firewall disabled, no zone alarm or norton or anything like that! Its really baffling me!
