This might work?

Subject: Campaign to Reduce UK Petrol Prices - a rip-off at 80p a litre e

>We are going to hit close to 89p a litre by the summer.
>Want petrol prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent,

>united action.

>

>Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

>This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "dont buy petrol on a certain day"

>

>campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just

>laughed at that because they knew we wouldnt continue to hurt ourselves

>by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it

>was a problem for them.

>

>BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can

>really work. Please read it and join in!

>

>Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to

>think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP at 77p -80p, we need to take

>aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not

>sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers

>need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of

>petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing

>their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Heres the

>idea:

>

>For the rest of this year, DONT purchase ANY petrol from the two

>biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not

>

>selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If

>they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

>

>But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Esso and

>BP petrol buyers. Its really simple to do!! Now, dont whimp out on me

>

>at this point...keep reading and Ill explain how simple it is to reach

>millions of people!!

>

>I am sending this note to a; lot of people. If each of you send it to at

>least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten

>

>more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches

>the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION

>

>consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten

>friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it

>goes one level further, you guessed it... .. THREE HUNDRED MILLION

>PEOPLE!!! Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. Thats

>all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us

>

>sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all

>300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8

>days!!! Ill bet you didnt think you and I had that much potential, did

>you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to

>you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR

>PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE

>

>Action:

>Its easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your

>petrol at Shell, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons (75p)Jet etc. i.e. BOYCOTT

>BP &

>ESSO!!!****************************

tip. whenever you see words like this in a post or email it means its a chain letter - the original author doesnt give a toss about the fuel issue, he/she just wants to see his message propagated as much as possible.

It wouldnt work anyway, but thats not even why the author wrote it.

thats what i thought, but its a sound idea and could work so who carse if its a chain letter. if it lowers fuel prices im all for it.

Id ignore any e-mail like that as its an easy way for a spammer to increase their e-mail address lists.

With all due respect, I dont think everyone has the deep understanding international fuel pricing and domestic policy to make strong calls such as those above. Not saying that I do, but people forget that oil is a finite resource that is now being consumed more and more by countries like China as their econmy grows. The UK fuel duty system is also a proportional one. The tax rises with fuel prices, but the %age stays the same (for the time being).

The other thing is that while I understand high fuel prices are an almost universal pain, I for one have made the psychological jump and use the train, bus and bike for about 3/4 of my commuting.

Now dont go telling me that its easy for me because I live in a big city - because I dont! I commute between my village and a market town in sleepy Wales. Its a little bit cheaper, but its also got me fit and the train/bike are always great places to chill out. Amazingly, the time difference is about 5 minutes each way!

Give it a try. :D

Motoring costs as a whole are cheaper than at any time. That may sound odd, but its because the balance has shifted from expensive cars and cheap fuel/costs to the other way around.

Cheap oil is not the way forward. Using our heads and enjoying driving with a little sense is. You can have the same effect as reducing petrol prices by driving with a light right foot!

i work for BP ....Boooooo they could lay me off as a side afect!!!!

that sucks!!

ok ill join in but .....errr ill - boy cot SHELL :devilish: lol
