How much are you likely to pay? Obviously want a good quality job done, just have no idea on what costs would be involved.

Cheers.

Between £1,000 and £3,000 IIRC.

You'll always get people telling you that their mate Wayne can do a full respray in his shed for £12 though!

Same colour? Any body damage to repair first? colour coding bumpers?

You need to be a bit more specific mate.

Not for my current car.

I'm torn between an RB 182, or an older 172 and respray it white. Was just trying to juggle the numbers to see if it was in budget etc..

Well as a guide, I paid £600 to have the whole of my 172 blown over apart from the roof and the tailgate. That was in the same colour with no body damage whatsoever. At mates rates as he owns the bodyshop.

To get a pro job to completely paint a car white so it looks factory, drive in drive out I bet you're looking at £3k.

It will obviously be cheaper the more work you do yourself.

I'd say that I'm completely incapable of doing any of the work myself, I'm not very hands on with cars. Was looking to just leave it at a garage and pick it up a finished job.

But in any case it's looking like it could be an expensive option, can't say I'd be too happy throwin 3K at a 3K car neither.

Thanks for the info Daniel!

Something that big is only worth doing if you want to do some stuff yourself.

All you need is a half decent tool kit and a couple of weekends. Remove bumpers, trims, lights etc. Bodyshops charge £50+ an hour labour so the more you do, the cheaper the bill will be!

My mums car was done for around 1200 euros, everything was left in, you can tell in some places but tbh its a decent job and after 4 years its still in good nik.
Btw thats on a 97 polo.

You can tell its been painted but you still think its a decent job??

And if everything was left in, they must have just done a blow over. Which isn't the same as a full colour change respray.

We're talking about two completely different things here. The OP wanted to know how much it would cost to do a colour change. A colour change means stripping it right down so you can do the engine bay/door shuts/boot shut etc.

If you're doing a blow over, you only need to scotch it all up and mask it up then paint it.

Massive difference mate.

if you completely bare the shell, get it dipped, and then resprayed, you'll be looking at 3k i'd imagine, but the finish will be wicked. Leaving all the bits in won't give you a great finish. Personally i'm picky, so i'd want everything to match.

No way.

Engine out, doors off, glass out... Thats more than a grand just in labour!

I usually agree with most of what you say Dan but...................20hrs to remove an engine, the windows and 3 doors! You been smoking crack? 5hrs max and that's in slow time with loads of coffee breaks!

At your £50ph reckoning that's £250

  Ph1 172
the only time ive enquired about this i got i quote of £800. everything sprayed minus the roof, in the same colour as original.

complete colour change, god knows.

Thats why I put '...' on the end. Theres loads to do to get the car ready!

The vinyl wrap route is not a bad idea for the white , BUT if you do go down this route, whatever you do buy a black car 1st. if you open the doors and see blue/yellow/green etc it looks crap. it only really works with black.
