Does anyone know where I can find POI's for this? Already got the Speed cams one.

Saw the i3 in Maplin yesterday, the unit had power, so I was able to have a little play, the bloke told me it came with a MAPLIN issue only CD with the camera locations to load on your pc, then transfer to the i3.
boi, do you know how often the camera locations are refreshed, and what web site you can get them from for the i3?? What sort of warning does the i3 give, is it all beeps and flashing lights??
I guess there is a current speed readout from the i3 and compass bearing etc?? If you're not using the satnav facility, does it just show a map of the roads you are driving, without verabl directions etc??
Check out www.lordpercy.com for more info on satnavs/safety camera locating devices!!
ShaunR16v said:I was thinking of getting a Road Angel Compact in the next couple of weeks, is it better to just buy the i3 then? What features does the RA have that i wouldn't get on the i3? An extra £20 for the i3 with the benefit of SatNav seems to good to pass up on!

Review: I recently purchased a Garmin i3 as an "early Christmas present" for myself and as a complete novice to GPS systems I found the unit quite incredible! It is usable straight from the box and easy to operate. Although the screen is small, it is very clear and accurate and in auto mode switches from a daytime view to night time. This reduces the brightness as if driving in a "full moon" environment. Excellent for safe night driving! The voice directions are also very clear for such a small unit. Come to think of it, if the screen was any bigger it would distract from your driving. Anyway the directions are so clear and accurate you only need to look at the screen as a last resort. Should you miss a turn then the i3 re-calculates your route within seconds and puts you back on track. I compare this unit with that of a mobile phone. What do you want it to do? Most of these modern gadgets have facilities you never use. The i3 gets you from A to B with no fuss. You can easily customise the unit to suit and you can download POI (points of interest) for free. Most of the GPS units on the market are nearly double the price so the i3 is real value for money. I will recommend this great little unit for the first time buyer and give it 10 out of 10. Well done Garmin.

ShaunR16v said:I've heard that by uploading some POI's, especially the Camere locations, this can cause the i3 to jam frequently so that you need to turn it off and back on, anyone who's got one had this happen?
mja182 said:Ive been mentioning this unit now for some time and people didnt seem to listen to the fact that your getting a sat nav unit and a gps gatso locator for less money than a road angel! Even though you get the built in radar detector with the road angel its not worth the extra money for my mind! There is also talk now that garmin will release the latest map update to existing customers (from v7 up to v8 mapping). If this becomes the case then you cant knock the after care customer service garmin are offering.
ShaunR16v said:Is there any monthly subscription charge for the i3?
ShaunR16v said:Looks like the i3 has made it to the top of my xmas pressie list then!
Cheers for the advice, always good to speak to someone who knows about it first-hand
danjacko said:Picked up an i3 today and no complaints at all so far! 169.99 and it's easy as pie to use and looks cool too. Just deciding the best place to put it - think I'm gonna put it to the left of my clock on the HUD. A couple of questions tho. I've tried to register my product on the site on the net but don't have a registration code - where can I find this? Anyone registered one?
Also when it comes to POI updates - so far I've updated the software on the system to the 2.70 is it? It came with 2.50. And I have the POI software downloaded and installed but I'm confused which POI file is most upto date with speed cam locations etc. Can someone add the links to the the one's I need with the most up-to date info? Thanks!
Dan.
mja182 said:Think its also worth mentioning to anyone with the heat reflecting screens eg the 182. That if you place the i3 unit close enough to the small transparent panel within the screen, the unit will work! there's no need for an external arial if you persivere with it. My unit picks up no problem. Bet that cant be said for most other units. I know that it not the case for the i3's bigger brother the c320 cause ive tried it with my dads unit and it struggles with signal.
How to make and submit your own POI's:
Unfortunately there's no way (without buying a program such as Mapsource) to get the longitude/latitude from any saved points on the i3, however:
If you can find it on a map then things are quite easy! Go to streetmap.co.uk and find it on a map. Zoom in as much as possible and click the actual location (entrance to car park probably best bet) and it will show an arrow on the map. Now, near the bottom of the page there is a link to 'click here to convert/measure coordinates' - click the link and in the list it will show you the latitude and longitude. You can then add these to the csv file (in the relevant columns) and email the longitude, latitude and name (eg Tesco - Wakefield) and I will add it to the relevant file.
If you spot an error in a POI file, for example the location is actually slightly wrong then find the correct location as above and let me know which item is being changed and the new details.
Send any submissions or amendments to: mail@maft.co.uk with the heading "i3 POI Submission"
cutehomoboi said:This is also very useful information I just found on this site: http://www.maft.co.uk/garmin/submit.htm
Now this is very useful if you want to make your own POI's, and it DOES work. As I just got the Lat: (51.5274) Lon: (-2.6032) from Multimap for a Morrisons Supermarket, saved the .csv file, and uploaded. Checked Garmin unit, and the location was there. So brill IMO!!
entjm said:yeah that is useful... if you enter POI's (i have for some mates houses) by entering it on the unit itself, the next time you update POIs they get wiped off!!!! and you loose people's addresses
with that method you can just make a CSV file on your computer full of addresses then never loose them
