how much would a new gear box cost for a 172

i reckon about £1500, be better to have yours rebuilt, cost about £350.

Mine sometimes crunches into 3rd so i have priced this up as well.

My 172 box also crunches like a b**ch in 3rd, I managed to get a 182 box from ebay for £250 hoping to pop it in, but heard a few stories about the bearings breaking etc so it's still just sat in the garage. RichMmc had his rebuilt by yozzasport and seems happy.

eBay is your best bet by far mate but of course you run the risk of the box being fecked.

Think it's about £350+ removal and refitting, then you got to decide is it worth putting a new clutch in to.
