Gear box feels a bit crunchy

Hi guys

am i in need of new gear box oil? any advice on what to get?

From all the clio's I've driven, none of them have smooth gearboxes. The 1.2 16v mk3 had a terrible clicky gearbox, my old 1.2 mk2 8v had a judder gearbox at 20k miles and the 1.2 16v TCE mk3 I've got now is smooth---ish.

it shouldn't be going anywhere for it to need topping up mate... any visible signs of leaks etc?

is it crunchy when putting in/taking out of gear or while in gear and driving?

need alot more info mate to be able to help

no thats the first thing i checked to see if i had any leaking.

going in to gear seems a bit rough and rugged to be honest

not sure if its connect but changes in the lower gears seem to make the car jump no matter how good my clutch control is

Someone else would be best advising with this mate but it could be a number of things afaik

I would say if it is worse gear dependant then it isn't the clutch or clutch release bearing, so there is something up with the gearbox but not the oil level IMO

Any whines at all?

nope, i get the electric fault light come on every now and again and the car go completely mental jumping all over the place but then it levels itself out

theres a plastic plug on the front of the gear box that is used to top up and check level, if u unskrew it and can see oil running out or can feel oil through the hole then its at the right level ( make sure the car is on level ground) it should be a red colour or a green brown colour, if its black then it needs draining and replacing and could also indicate problems with the box, however as for ur electric fualts, check all the earth lines and for any wires or wireing harneses rubbing and catching on anything... it sounds worth getting checked out tho
