Gear Box/ Starter

With my 172 coversion well underway i decided to keep my 1.6 16v box as it was only about 10k new. But i have a 172 starter and she wont turn over. Ive had the starter off and tested and thats fine. And when i turn the key i can here it kicking out and spinning but it like the bell housing on my box is stopping it reaching the fly. This is only speculation but could this actually be the problem?

The other reason we think it could be is the fact my car isnt wired up yet, and the right signal isnt being sent?

My box is a JC5 iirc

1.6 box will be a JB3, the proper 172 box is a JC5.

Ok thanks, either way its not turning over. Clio starter on a clio fly. And i turned it over by hand before.

I'd start looking to see if anythings jamming anywhere that sort of thing if you can hear the starter running without engaging onto the fly.

What would i be looking for jamming wise? Ive had it on and off twice and its really getting on my tits now lol.

jb3 box should work no problems

can you turn the engine over by hand with the box attached?

as for wiring, it only needs a red constant live and a white feed for the solenoid from the ignition barrel to turn it 'on'

And a good Engine to chassis earth. Have you tryed adding another earth?
