gear change / bite

my car has recently stated to vary with the gear change, dometimes it goes into gear and others it does but not very easily, also the clutch is sometimes hard and sometimes soft do i need a new clutch?

Gearboxs are a weak point on the 172, so i hear! try a fresh load of gearbox oil & see if that helps.. if not you may end up spending a few £££
