Does anybody know where i could find info on all the gear ratios for 172?

Renault gearbox repair manual?

Mine is dated 1997, so wont' help you, but lists all the ratios up till then

lol could someone explain how this works:

172
5.3 mph/thousand rpm
8.7 mph/thousand rpm
12.3 mph/thousand rpm
15.8 mph/thousand rpm
20.4 mph/thousand rpm

so 1st gear ratio is: 0.0053?

that doesnt sound right to me, how is it worked out from that sorry for my thickness!

that provides the theory but you'll also need the final drive (diff) ratio
might also need a calculator..

you have to use wheel rolling radius to find the rpm of the wheel given road speed for given engine speed...this will give you overall drive ratio. you will then need to know diff ratio to calculate individual drive ratios i.e 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc

172 Mk2 phase 1 JC3 089 gearbox codes are

Step down ratio 15/58
Speedo drive 21/19
1st 11/34
2nd 22/41
3rd 28/37
4th 34/35
5th 39/31
reverse 11/39 26

I'm new to this but I think my 2002 model is a ph2 so has anyone got the ratios for this one. I hear they are different (shorter) than the ph1 version.
