Gearbox and oils...

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
sinse iv put my car back together, the gear change hasnt been very good. it dont grind/grate, its just hard/lumpy to get into gears. gear 1/2/3 are the worst. however its fine if the cars not moving. i was wondering if its just up to the oil i used, i put something like 75w90 (the one that listed in the book). would it be better if i used automatic transmition oil?

I get this problem when the box is cold, I changed my gearbox oil and it has made the problem better but its become intermittant. Sometimes its silky smooth from the start and sometimes its back to being a b*****d again, would says its fine 8 out of 10 times I've just put it down to the JB1 gearbox being generally crap.

Without overlooking the obvious is your clutch dragging, ie very low biting point? I have done some reading up on ATF, lots of peeps use it due to it being thinner than standard and therefor you lose less power through the box. Theory sounds okay but why don't renault specify this oil? Up to you matey!!

linkage is my bet, you have to be careful alinging the linkage

with 75w90 i've always found the JB and JC boxes very notchy when cold

^^^ i didnt take apart the linkage, so dont think its that...it is a notchy feeling tho!

so ATF isnt going to mess up my gearbox?
