Gearbox+ atb quaife

Im about to buy clio rs 200 mk 3( regular no cup) the car has lsd of quaife,the guy put the original oil( i think 75-80) is it good or should change? To 75-90 or something

Most people use a fully synth Fuchs or Redline 75w-90, over on 197.net.

Personally I'm going to be sticking in Millers CRX 75w-90 CT in my rebuild (99% sure I'm going Quaife too and not Gripper).

I'd ring up Quaife to see what they recommend but I suspect the OE grade will be recommend.

Unlike a plate/clutch pack LSD Quaife ATBs do not require fancy LSD specific oils due to them being a geared differential.

If you put any fancy LSD specific oils in most fwd gearboxes you'll find it eats the brass synchros mate. It's not designed for synchromesh gearboxes at all.

Renault boxes are sensitive enough as it is.

I am aware of that, and this of course can become a problem with a clutch type of LSD in a FWD 'box despite them meaning to be the 'best' type of diff.

This seems to make the Quaife ATB a great solution. From the Peugeot days it seemed that the gearboxes ran better on the BV rated stuff from Peugeot themselves (or Total if GSF stocked it) than other fluids, at least in mine they did.

I am considering putting an ATB into my RST for this reason.

Tbh your only going to get the most out of a plate diff if you've got the ramp angles set to make it very aggressive, which then makes them awful in everyday conditions! This in turn starts a vicious circle, as the plates wear faster meaning the box needs to come apart for the diff to be serviced. f**k that! Lol!
That's where the Quaife has its party piece as I'm sure your aware, they don't need to come out for servicing.

I did try not to laugh when a local gearbox builder tried to convince me that a Gripper Diff would be great for my RST and that taking them apart is not that bad (bar in the case of the gearbox on the RST requiring you to take everything out just to get to the diff!).

The 'fit and forgot' nature of the Quaife is very appealing to me and should I go with an LSD it may well be the choice I go with if I can live without an LSD in a 225BHP car.

Been reading about wavetrac.
Basically a quaife that does lock 100%.
Wish they did one for the jc5

It seems the Wavetrac are more for the US derived cars. A bit of a pain for us really!
