Gearbox Differences?

As I might need a new box what are the differences between 172, 172 cup and 182 boxes if any?

Take it out and get it rebuilt,then you know it's a good one.

Any idea on a price before I give them a call, I have an odd issue where if I jack the car up and spin the passenger wheel I get a squeak from the box and can see the driveshafts moving in and out of the box which Im guessing shouldnt happen.

paid about 300 quid for new syncros, a shift-fork, bearings and re-sealing... and he is quick!
