Gearbox mount - confused???

  Ph2 172 Cup
Following on from my post in the K-Tec Dealers section...

Tonight I've taken out my battery and air filter. Looking at the mount I'm a bit confused about how you get it out and how you fit the bracket underneath...

Undo the big bolt in the middle of the mount (OK obvious)...

but the K-Tec mount comes with a big aluminium bracket that I assume fits underneath - how do I get it in and how do I get access to hold the bolts while I do it up?

Do I have to undo the 'cradle' that the mount sits inside and then fix the mount to the cradle, refit cradle to the car and then redo centre bolt to mount the gearbox?

Or is there access from underneath to fix either side of the mount?

Or am I going about this completely the wrong way? :S

Here's the std mount and stud removed. Left side of the picture is the bottom. The stud goes in through the bottom. I haven't tried fitting my KTec uprated one yet but it looked pretty similar to the above to me.

Only problem I had was the big nut on the top was stuck to the mount so I had to undo the bottom one instead which had really poor access.

The mount is often quite tightly stuck to the stud. Try levering it about, maybe even gentle hammering on the top of the stud but remember you need to reuse it.

You don't need to remove the cradle.

I figured the ktec one would just fit on top of the stud.

i wondered that with the ktec one it has about a 10mm plate which looks way to big to go in there id just ring ktec and ask them tbh oh and when doing them mounts ensure once you have new one back in you pull engine towards the front of the car due to i didnt do that first time and my manifold started knocking on me sub frame :(

remove old mount

remove battery tray

the picture of the mount on K-tec site is upside down so big washer goes on first, make sure you put the flat surface of the washer facing down, you should now see a shallow groove on top of the washer.

pre assemble the the aluminium and the rubber parts onto the battery tray, the aluminium piece has a square and a round internal edge, i put the square edge down, don't tighten the bolts all the way on the new mount yet.

now locate the new mount/battery tray over the pin, jiggle the assembly around while pushing down, once the assembly is in place re-secure the battery tray and the the engine mount.

hope this makes sense

While i wait for k-tec to open......

It's the big plate that's got me stumped. Won't dropping it straight on top raise the height of the gearbox by 10-15mm? But then there is also a rubberized washer that goes on the bottom... Perhaps that spaces it out again?

Someone must have fitted one of these!

i'm looking at doing this at the moment as well and, as far as i can see, the order of fitting on the KTEC site is right (?)

don't seem to need to remove the battery tray or the spindle (although i'm going to, to threadlock the lower nut on - keeps working loose on mine)

- rubber coated washer goes on first, with the bevel to its inner diameter facing upwards
- the rubber mount sits ontop of the alloy packing piece, which all sits in the battery tray
- larger alloy washer ontop, with the nut sitting in the recess

only potential prob i can see so far is that there don't appear to be too many threads engaged on the top nut

interested in what others are making of it anyway

it's on now - sure that's how it's intended to go together. the inner diameter of the rubber mount was tight over the spindle on mine; just needed a thump. it's easiest to push the two smaller bolts up from underneath and fit the stuff on over them, otherwise it's fiddly trying to push them through the various assemblies. top nut has enough engaged thread

hth some anyway

So close...

All done, made sense in the end, but the top bolt doesn't fit. I didn't get one in the kit and the one on the car has an integrated washer that is too wide for the recess in the top aluminium part... Hence there's not enough thread through the bolt to be safe. Guess I'll have to go and get a suitable bolt tomorrow.

Anyone else had this?
