gearbox reinforcement?

  182 trackday racer
Forget about it mate!

The first one can be used easily, but you may as well weld your stock one if it even has the circlip.

The second one require stripping the gearbox completley from bearings and all, and then milling the gearbox housing down to leave room for the reinforcement. After that you will need to meassure bearing play on the ingoing shaft and mayby re-shim it. On top of that its crazy expensive.

Buy a spare box for £200 on eBay instead.

I also looked at these recently as well and wondered if it would work. I figured if putting a lot of torque through your box maybe there was a little caseing flex causing the shafts to seperate.
I phoned CTS and quizzed them about how to strengthen them and they simpy said when I blow a box up to send it down to them and they will work out how to strengthen that part (which will only lead me to the next weaskest link) so we'll just wait and see how it goes.

The bearing in the other end of the in-going shaft does move both ways so I guess you will just make it move there instead. A lot of work for uncertain approvements I would say. All boxes Ive seen cracked the differential housing and cleared teath on the crownwheel / ingoing shaft.

the first one is basically upgrading to what the 182 box has and is a LOT better than a welded circlip. I'll be using one of these eventually.

2nd one looks interesting, not seen those before, might be worth a look. It would be a very involved job to fit though, probably only worth looking at on a very extensive build
