Will a 182 gearbox go on a 172 engine or is the 182 box abs and not speedo drive ? Need to change my gearbox as circlip keeps popping so just wondering is it worth upgrading to the 182 box

Same box but yes as you say no speedo drive. Not all 172s are speedo drive though, only ph1, cups and same early ph2 172s have speedo drive boxes but still use the abs for speed reading.

I need a speedo drive box as i have done a conversion from 1.2 to 172 and have deleted the abs with the cup bits no aircon or pas either have done the epas conversion

Well ph1 boxes are slightly longer geared than ph2 so you'll probably be wanting a cup/early ph2 box and a then buy a speedo sender then.

The engine and box came out of a 02 plate 172

Right on the cusp, only way to be sure is to look and see if the hole for the sender is there, it's just near where the starter bolts in.
