get the cambelt done or just sell as is??

Herr Flick

im thinking of selling my ph1 172 because im hardly using it (i havent even done a thousand miles since july)
but the cambelt will be due in march 2010, so my question is, do i sell it as it is only having 5 months til due date and knock a bit of the price or get it done my self??
ie. will i end up loosing more money if i sell as is?

  Looking for a ph1 172
Im looking at buying a ph1 172 and iv been looking at ones that have had the belts done recently. I just cant be bothered with the hassle of getting the belts changed.

Suppose its really six and half a dozen whether you get them done or knock money off.

I'd sell it without. I bought mine with a belt change due and now have the peice of mind of knowing its been done 100%.

dunno yet danny, im only thinking about it at the moment, probably put it up for around £2500 if the belts arent done as every thing else is done and the car is mint.

  A thirsty 172
Personally I'd leave it as is. Chances are if you don't sell it to a member off here you'll get a young spotty oik buying it off you instead. And he will just want something to go "brap brap" in, so he'll rag the tits off it until the belt snaps regardless of whether it's been done or not.
A real enthusiast will understand that the belts need doing and will know that the price reflects this.

I would get it done before the sale as if the person knows what they are looking for, it will help with the sale if the belts have been done.

If you sell it without, don't mention it in the Ad, I hate it when people do that, do you wanna sell the car or not, Lol

i would sell it without, i would much rather get a cheaper car and get the belts done myself by a decent garage than have the previous owner have it done by god knows who

as said it won't add the same value on that it would cost and it's 5 months away, not exactly due now, leave it and save yourself some hassle

I think it would sell better with it done.If i was a buyer i'd look for one that had been done instead of finding 500 notes to do it after i'd bought the car...

I bought my old 172 knowing it needed an immediate cambelt done. It was cheap though and I sort of liked the idea as it gave Birchdown a good opportunity to look at the car when I had the cambelt done and point out any problems.

It is probably worth circa £2500 with the belt done, maybe put it up for £2300 without it done, not saying anything but if they ask then that is why its cheaper

theres £200 difference there, compared to the £4-600 you will spend on getting them belts done, leaving you with a potential loss of £2-400, i know what I'd be doing

be honest when selling it, if i was to find out why u had put it up for £2300 not £2500 because it needs a cambelt change i would be vary warey of what else u hadnt declared,

if your honest people who really want the car will buy it and get the belts done themselves, that what i did when i bought my 182 recently.

You hate people being honest and would rather they neglected to tell you something important ? :S
