Going to get a private plate, question about the existing one!

Ok so I'm going to finally get my private plate soon and as I understand it the one the car has always had will become void unless I keep it on retention...

Now after I would pay the £105 to put it on retention is that it? Do you have to pay that every 12 months or is it a one of fee?

I'm funny with number plates as the car has always had the same plate it seems wrong to sell it on in the future with a totally different reg again! Can't say I have any experience in this situation but having lots of history on the old reg, then private, then new one to sell would be off putting wouldn't it? or is that just me?

I'm not sure I'd be prepared to pay that for a worthless reg, looks like I'll be giving that a miss!

Are you saying your car is EG:

Reg from new - 'AB53CDE'

You want to put on Private reg 'DAZ1'

And put AB53CDE on rentention?

If so dont bother.... THE DVLA will simply reassign you AB53CDE if and when you take your DAZ1 plate off, failing that they will just give you another age related plate.

i wouldnt bother! ive put my private plate on 3 different cars and i have never put the original on retention??

when i have removed the plate, the original reg has always gone back onto it with no problems.
