Gonna have a go at the headlights tomorrow.

well my headlight lenses look like someone has washed them with a scouring pad so tomorrow i'm gonna have a go at cutting them back to something that resembles headlights!

not a close up view but you can just about make them out.

Well I went with the method of.....

Firstly a damn good clean up with white spirits
used wet n dry sandpaper throughout
started with 600 dry
then 600wet
there was what looked like a laquered layer that had worn off the top quater of each light so the rest had to go too!
then stepped up to 1500 wet
2000 dry
2000 wet
cut it all back with some halfords cutting paste (yellow tube) as it helped to identify any areas that needed a bit more work.
then i went for 2500 dry
then 2500 wet
another going over with the cutting compound
and then a damn good polish with autoglym products

I'm wanting to do mine, just scared to!!

Heard that after 6 months or so they can just go back to how they were?

I spent about an hour on each one, do it! if you **** it up - just sand it back with a more abrasive grade and work your way up again, its the same as paint prep really.

grab a stool, take a seat, and get stuck in!

I had a go at mine....epic fail.

I used 800 wet, then 800 dry, then 1200 wet and 1200 dry.

I read somewhere that metal polish by autoglym is really good for polishing the hazyness of the lights once sanded so done that and it seems as though the hazyness that i sanded off has stuck back on! what polish would you recommend to get all the hazyness off? really dont want to fork out for new lights!

Nice results mate you probably didnt need to start on a 600 I did that and ended up needlessly spending ages working the high grade marks out.

Car looks good I love monaco blue haven't seen you around Northampton before.

dry first then wet, 1200 is a good start but you need to be finishing on 2500 to get a decent finish, did you just use sandpaper? any products?

Ooooh really, right ok, I shall have another pop. Well I used wet and dry sand paper and a guide I was using aid autoglym metal polish for the finish but didn't work out. I shall redo them and let u know! What polish did you use?

Oh crumbs! dont use metal polish, I used cutting paste from halfords - T- Cut scratch remover would do, then a good going over with autoglym.

What autoglym we talking about? Resin polish?
normal resin polish - but I only used this for the final buff up. once you have finished all the wet sanding phases you will need a cutting compound of some description (Maguires scratch - X, T - cut, Halfords cutting paste etc)this will smooth out most of the scratches, I did this once or twice as I went along as it was good to highlight and deeper scratches.Hope this helpsRob
