Got One :d

  Hondata'd EP3 Type R
Finally got my new car. After much deliberation, I decided against getting a performance car (Civic Type R, Audi S3 where the main 2) AS although I could afford to insure them, I couldn't justify £200 a month insurance.

I needed a new car, Wasn't too fussed about performance, As i only do 4k a year, And mostly that is to and from work so decided to get a Clio 1.2 Dynamique In Black, I didnt really havea budget, But didnt want to spend more than £5k.

Went and looked at a few today and I ended up buying a 2004 model with 24k on the clock for £4,495. It didnt have air con which upset me, But has full dealer service history (is that a good thing?) and 12 months AA Warrenty, I've read all the small print and the Warrenty does seem quite comprehensive. Also it has had 4 BRAND new tyres on (less than 5 miles from new, The place that fitted them was visible from the garage forecourt and had the reciept with the mileage fitted on!

I pick it up wednesday with 12 months MOT and 12 Months tax.

It was advertised for £4,495, And I gave him that, But dont think I'm that much of a mug, As IT didnt come taxxed, I said to him I'll give you asking price for 12 months tax too. He offered 6 months and I said 12 and he agreed. So I've got 12 months mot, Tax, and warrenty.

I know its not the supercar I was hoping to get for my 21st, But Its going to serve me well and keep my motoring costs down. Theres plenty of time in my life to buy faster cars, Without getting raped by the insurance.

Over all I'm a Happy bunny.

P.S. Nex tservice is meant to be 36k correct?

thanks

Well done matey. Very sensible thing to do. You'll be thankfull in the long run. I too cannot see the point in spending rediculous amounts of money on insurance...

I could have gone for the S3, Could have even afforded to buy and insure an Astra VXR, But I wouldnt have any money left after that. I wouldnt be at the pub, I wouldnt be buying nice clothes and going to the football, Car racing. Wouldnt be able to buy the latest console games, But i just wasnt willing to make that sacrifice at my age. Only thing is all my mates are sacrificing all this, So I've no one to go the pub with anyway lol.

I think this will serve me well, Plus i live 2.5 miles from work, The engine wouldnt be up to tempreture so theres no point in a performance car for me ;)

Think I got a good deal, I drove it and it felt like blkoody bentley to me, After spending 18 months in a Metro.

IF I didnt build that Gold Clio in my avatar I could have had The S3, or VXR and still have gone out, Bought clothes, Bought console games, And would have still ahd money left to save.

Good choice matey, that was a sensible decision! Save your money now and keep your expenses low and eventually you will have the car you always wanted ;)

Very wise mate, what happened to your 'Crazy Clio'?

My mrs' brother, 21, bought a Corsa VXR in October, with the finance and insurance coming to over £600 per month. He's already decided it leaves him with nothing at all to enjoy a social life and has since returned it to the dealer where, luckily, the manager is a family friend and is letting him downgrade.

It will be a wise decision if hes happy with it this time next year and not looking to sell because "i made a msitake, i want a 1*2!!11!".

Good luck with your purchase.

you still paying for the modded beast then? how come your insurance is so high? I live local, similar age and my insurance on similar cars is about £600-800

I had a small loan to pay for stuff like the insurance and wheels and the car itself, The modifications i paid for with saved money, but im still paying the loan off, but paying The loan isnt the problem though.

Basically, I started work at 15 and saved alot of money, All this went on the clio, I blew my savings on it, So it leftme with no money in reserve. I sold the clio for next to nothing, Which meant i essentially just wasted my money. I swallowed my pride and bought a Metro for 18 months whilst i got back my feet financially, And managed to save a bit of cash, and inherited some. I could have gone and bought the said cars cash and insured them straoght up for a year, But It would have left me in the same boat with no money to fall back on. So I've basically had to start from scratch. The loan repayment is a few days work, Its just the fact i dont want to get any more finance/loan, So if i want something, I've got to save and pay cash, And the same for insurance. I hate having stuff come out the bank, So always pay my insurance in one lump sum.

Reagrds Insurance, I'm 21 in 9 days, no NCB (As I've never had a policy long enough to gain any) But the problem is my area.

My actually housing estate is in the best area for miles around by me, Alot of expensive houses/cars on my road. But it shares the post code with 2 of the roughest council estates in Birmingham. This means my insurance quotes are based on this and are in the highest band.

Civic Type R was £2800, 182 was £2400, S3 was £3000. 1.2 Dynamique is £1300!

Its my own policy though, And my dad as named driver. Same credentials at my nans address insures me a S3 for £800 lol.

Stuck with it.

Woah, 1200£ on music. You said you only have a couple of miles to work and back, is it really worth it? Plus the fact that it might get nicked for no apparent reason. Save and invest ftw! :)(my opinion only)

the lack of NCB will be killing you mate! Glad to hear you are getting evrything sorted though. Out of interest why did you sell the clio? PM me if you want

I'm not into modified cars any more. Still respect them when I see a proper modified one, But its a mugs game. You cant be different any more because there are people who are willing to spend £50k on a 206, The scene moved on at such a rate I couldnt keep up financially lol. I had all my plans ready fpr the interior, Got a bit of it done and got the retrim done, But Then i thought I was thinking i need to just cut my losses. Then my mind was kinda made up when it got crashed into in a car park with no CCTV. The mods were covered by insurance, But they werent replaced like for like. As it was all smoothed in i needed a fair bit of work, Would have Cost me £1400 to fix, But got it doen on the cheap for £500, They f**ked it up, TBH It wasn't as bad as I made out, But i wanted it perfect. After much argueing and take it back, IWent to collect it one day and they had shut up shop, Changed phone number and m ycar had been impounded by their bailiffs. Got the carf back but it was in a right state and couldnt track em down.

I'd been buying bits and bobs ready to fit, 4 pot brakes, And had won a 172 lump and box on ebay the day I found out the bodyshop had f**ked off. Sold my stereo and interior, 4 pots, Wheels, Contacted the seller of the engine and he was ok, I Paid his listing fee though. LEft me with a shell which i sold for £500. Its back on the road now with a standard interior and 1.2 8v lump and some 17s.

I was more into the shows than the driving it too TBH.

Was good in a way that it did happen, As I would have spent another £10k+ finishing it. It had already got to the stage where It was an ornament more than a car, I was using this as a daily drive remember, Ferrying my mom to work and back in it 5 days a week!

That was 18 months ago.

So I cut my losses, Got the "talk" off the parents, And I'm not going down that route again. Bought a metro (Well its a 100 kensington ;)) And honestly I've had more fun in that, Its cost me pence to run and I've shagged more birds in it than the Clio ;)

Back on my feet now though, And a happier person

Standard Cars FTW.

Dont get me wrong, If i won the loterry tomorrow, I'd buy the Clio back and finish it, Would look nice next to my Porsches and Ferraris IMO ;) I know you all just thought it was a chav wagon, But to me it was a show car (not saying it was at that standard, But would have been had i finished), A Hobby, I dont expect anyone on the Forum to understand that, Except maybe MarkyX2C-UK.

Good choice - I went down the road of having loads of money in a car - had 2 mini cooper s's and a lotus elise s, was all nice and well having them, but when you have literally all your money in your car then its just silly in my opinion. I am still living at home at 26! (although not for long) hence why I could afford to run the elise, but it really is just pretending - driving about in something like that if you cant afford to buy a house etc! Which is why I sold up and bought the clio which is great! :)

Anyway wise choice, im sure you will enjoy the clio! A set of wheels and springs will make it look the nuts and wont cost you the earth aswell! ;)

Oh and metros are a right laugh! :D me and my mate have one for doing auto testing 1990 h plate gti! its so much fun to drive!

Picked it up today. I dont know if its the fact ive been driving MEtros for the past 18 months (Admitedly some 182, maybe V6 beating metros;)) But this Clio feels like a Bentley. Smooth, Good toys, Good on fuel, Quite nippy.

I'm smitten. All insured, Done 52 miles in it today.

Very impressed with the build quality, Appears to have moved on alot since my phase 1! Although my example as done 24k.

Loving it so far, But A few questions.

Are 172 wheels (the ones that look like dynamique ones) 16"? Mine appears to have the same profile tyres of the number 23 bus ;)

Its really nice to drive. I'm smitten.

197 or 225 MEggy next :D
