Grr, stone smashed windscreen!!

  LY V6 with Recaros
Was driving along the A13 today, quite happily poodling along as it was early, and all of a sudden a huge great big stone came pelting up and hit my windscreen, right infront of my face, and it has left a 2 inch circle of shattered glass!!!! It looks like I have a big spider infront of me!!
Now I'll have to pay £50 excess and wait for it to be fixed :(

:( hope you get it sorted quickly.

At least there is insurance though, I wouldnt want to have to fit the bill outright for a heat reflective front screen.

  Golf GTI 1.8T
most insurers cover you for a windscreen with a small excess, and doesn't afect your insurance.

  Mégane RS
yeah you have to pay the £50 or whatever it states in your policy, but it doesnt affect your ncb iirc

BTW, DEB 182 how do you get your post amount to stay on the number 182? Sorry to change the subject;)

you havent had much luck in your clio, wasn't it you that slid into something on a muddy car park at a race track before?

  Ford Fiesta
not good at all is it, and apart from trying to keep a large gap in front not much you can do to avoid such situations is there!

i alwayd wonder if they are the same, ive heard of others having a brown tinit instead of blue etc.

and would they have the renault logo on them? (pretty sure standard ones do)

  LY V6 with Recaros
Yep Polarbert, it was me that slid down a muddy hill, I think the cars cursed! :(

I wasn't even close to any other cars in front of me, so there really wasn't anything that could have prevented it.

I am a bit worried the window wont be quite as good as the original, or the same colour, when i had my vtr broken into the windows were a slightly different colour when it was replaced, and will they know its a heat reflective one??

the colour will be different afaik because only the standard renault ones are the same colour. I think you can get a puply one or maybe a greeny one depending on who you use.

I had mine replaced by National Auto Windscreens, they replaced it with a Pilkington screen which has exactly the same features as the Renault one, i.e rain sensor UV filtering etc etc. The total bill for the insurance co was near £400 as it is such a special screen!

I haven't noticed any difference in colour although I dont belive they have etched any numbers into it (didn't know there was any in the old one tbh!). Infact I would say the screen is better then the old one, my old one used to steam up in cold winter rain and I would be forced to use the demister on the C/C.... the new one does not steam up at all!

I'm getting it done by rac auto windscreens, but they're not coming out until next weds! I'm not sure if I'm allowed to drive it like that, is it safe, or legal?

  Ford Fiesta
it's mad you cant get exact replacements of the windscreens with the correct tint, and renault logos, air bag logos and ISR etching!

  106 GTi
You can send of to ISR to get a new etchings.

As for a new screen with logos etc, you would have to get a genuine one from Renault.

As R-Jay is it poss to get a gen Renault one fitted thro ins co?
Cos i need new screen altho damage not as bad as Deb's but i also dont know who to use.

Thats the thing, I dont know if insurance will let you, as they normally have an agreement with a certain glass company.

A freind had a geniune screen fitted to his 306 not sure how he manged that via insurance.

  Ford Fiesta
even most renault dealers would have agreements with autowindscreens etc so i'd bet you would struggle even going through renault.

  182 Full Fat
I got stone chip way down to cornwall. Im debating whther to have it repaired as it is small and quite low down. Then again for £50 excess I have piece of mind it will be new and safe
