GTI engine

im thinking of putting a 106 GTI lump in my 2000 model clio, will it fit/ has anyone ever done this before anyone got any advice??

i dont think it is, i found a very cheap engine, box ,loom everything, and they are 120bhp standard, and seeing i got a 70bhp 1.2 at the moment it will be a huge improvement.

yes i know it wont have GTI pace seeing the GTI is alot lighter, but my insurance wont let me put a 2 litre or a valver lump in, so it has to be a 1.6 and the GTI is a more powerfull engine than the clio 1.6, yes i probably will have to make custom engine mounts and other things but hopfully it wont be to hard, just wanted to know if anyone has done this conversion or attempted it??

Ive certainly never heard of this before. It would be a lot cheaper and easier to sell the Clio and buy a 106 GTi or Saxo VTS.

Nice 106 GTis can be had for around £3k these days.

But thats FAR too easy...the challenge is where the fun lies

Why Peugeot have stated the 106 GTi engines were 120bhp I never know.

Most make nearer 130bp, and the later models over 130 and seem fairly easy to get to 140bhp with a few simple mods that you are likely to do to get to fit a clio.

How it fits, no idea I would guess it would involve a serious amount of work, custom engine mounts, driveshafts

So much hassle fitting a Pug engine into a Renault, just fit another Renault engine in there, loads to choose from.

Or, just buy a 106 GTi

Or a 172 engine.

Be much better/quicker/easier/everything.. IMO.

Be a good project tho.. supercharged 106 GTi lump.. ;)

Youd be far better of putting in a 172 lump as thats 170bhp as standard.

The only problem is the insurance company will then classify the car as a 172.

So no point really.
