I'd say so, with the latest firmware update you can upscale normal DVD's and output Blu-ray at 1080p 24fps.

Sounds like a good deal to me!

I paid £550 for three games. No films or HDMI cable on launch day.

Depends if you really want a ps3 I guess.

I only had the ps2 before hand so thought it would be nice to have an upgrade.

However I wouldn't bother if you have xbox 360, seems a little pointless having two consoles that do the same thing.

That's not so bad considering it comes complete with a HDMI cable.

A guy on AVF is selling new UK PS3's for £340 delivered. If you were to buy that and Motorstorm (£29.99) and a cheap HDMI (£5) then the price is similar. You also get a few BD in the package you've bought.
