gally care to explain a bit more on this value...

So do you mean if you paid s**t loads fo the car in theory insurance pay out is more?? :S
Well if you had paid 4k for the car then you would have no reason for gap insurance as they would pay 4k settlement anyway but since you paid 5k+ then the gap insurance will cover the shortfall.

Obviously well played as you know you paid over the odds for the car you want but covered your back in the process.

200 quid for paint!

Bonnet and the whole side of the car with blending will run into about 7/800+ quids worth.
Of paint materials? Are you sure? Like really sure?

But you have to have GAP insurance to get that...so in my case Id struggle to get about £2500 I reckon for mine :( (not that II have stacked mine just curious as to what this is all about)

No you wouldn't Rich, you would get at least 3500 that's with high mileage and average condition.

Hope it gets sorted for you.

Don't listen to the amateur insurance assessors on here, most of them don't have a clue. Gally and SoA are the only two I know actually work in/run bodyshops, I do too but I'm not too clued up on the assessor side of things.

When it comes to this kind of stuff, Gally is probably the best person to give an opinion/estimate of costs involved.
I work in a bodyshop and i do assess damage but Gally is very qualified.
The force is strong with that one....

Ahh nice one! Always good news.
As a repairer we hate having cars written off and, most of the time, so do insurance companies.
If a repairer charges storage and estimate fees (like we do) and it sits for a number of days before being written off, the insurance have to pay out to you AND the repairers fees, so it makes sense to repair it.

Good stuff!

Pretty much anything is repairable! It's a question of how much money you want to spend in the process!
A write off does not mean unrepairable, a write off is when the insurance company decide not to repair the vehicle, eg: if repairs exceed a certain % of the cars value.

It's not an exact science though and half the people who assess damaged vehicles are complete retards!

Anyway i hope it's restored to its former glory!

Nice to hear hun, couldn't get a cost of repairs just out of interest Claire?

I'm sure you would rather have it back than the hassle of a write off, it's a pain in the butt.

That was a joke.

Right?
Well most of it you could do yourself. The big issue is the dent in the rear quarter. If you cut the quarter off yourself and sourced another then just asked someone to weld it on you could sort painting out. It really isnt that hard to sort out.

Lols. Even if you did it yourself on a tight budget you couldn't fix that for under 1k!

You would repair the quarter? Oh and the front bumper?

I like when you repair cracks on bumpers then go to fit them once painted and the filler cracks.

Only just seen this bad news!

Your car looked awesome at the NW meet! Hope you get it fixed :)

Source a new bumper, you could get one for 100 quid. Get someone to paint it. Cutting a quarter out isnt hard :S Draw the line and cut...

I get my car back monday morning, its been a long 2 weeks! I hope everythings OK im just worried im not going to be happy with it.

Glad it's getting sorted Claire. As Jim says.

Hopefully it's not UKassistance or UKassist in Normanton repairing it. They churn out the shittest repairs ever, Soph's dad has had a lot of grief with them.

His went back about 3 times to them in Normanton, and now 6 or so months later the paint is peeling, and a leak into the car has appeared around the repair area in the rear quarter.

I don't know how it works though.

I did exactly the same just before xmas, slid into a 4x4. I was glad it was a 4x4 as the damage is to the easily replaceable parts with them being so high!

I got away with a wing/bonnet repair and a headlight
